Hi,
I am new to forum. I tried to research but did not find any old post related to my issue. Please excuse me if it is a repeated question. Yesterday I bought the Torque Pro version and will be setting it up today. I already tested with the free version that Bluetooth OBD2 works fine with my car. I have no knowledge of auto and appreciate if some one can guide me what sensor I should monitor for my issue that is mentioned below.
I have 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT model. Since last one month this is what happening. Please note the issue is intermittent. Some days goes by with no issues but lately it is coming often.
-It suddenly looses the power, no matter how much I press the gas paddle the RPM some time do not go beyond 2000 and speed remains around 40 KM/H. It last for 15 to 20 seconds and then it catch the speed and car is running fine.
-Some time when stopping at Red light, the RPM goes between 700 to 1100 multiple times and it start knocking. Few times it happened that the engine shuts down. I place the gear in parking, restart the car and it drive fine.
-Few times it happened that engine shuts down quietly without knocking. But car restarts at the first attempt and I am able to drive.
My mechanic after diagnosing, said it is transmission issue. First the transmission oils is changed with no success. Issue continue. He tested it very thoroughly before telling that it is transmission issue.
Then transmission was changed for C00 (Canadian Dollars) and the issue is still continue. Exactly the same issue, nothing has changed. The workshop folks did change some other parts with no success. Lastly they said get a diagnostic report from the Dodge dealer and they will see what they can do for me. They tried really hard but not getting to the bottom of this issue.
I was last Saturday at the dealer at the time they asked me to come. Guess what, for 4 hours my car was there and their computer system was down. They have given me another appointment for next Saturday. Unfortunately my working hours do not match with their working hours. So I am driving this car with this issue. It is quite risky as the car can stop anywhere and may not restart.
This morning the battery failed. Luckily I had portable booster so restarted my car. One thing happen. When I restarted the car the RPM goes all the way to 6500 (but no engine noise that shows it roaring) and then comes back to 700. Then goes to 200 and then 900 and then 200 and then 900. All the dash board lights are flickering. The Odometer displays on and off “Track off”. I shut down the car. Restarted and it restarted normal. I power off and it won’t start again. I had to use power booster. It started and did not give any issue after that. I tested by multiple time powering off and on.
I bought the Torque Pro to see if I can record some data when the issue starts specially when it loose the power and then gain the speed back. I will keep the Bluetooth OBD 2 connected only when I am driving as I know it will drain the battery if I leave it plugged in there. I need some help.
– What sensor I should monitor?
– Can data be saved while driving and when the issue starts?
– Will that data can be played back to show my mechanic?
I do not have any knowledge about the auto industry so any help will be grate.
Thank you.
SA.
