Post Torque App Changing Vehicle Coolant Guage Reading on Vehicle
on: July 11, 2017 (GMT)

Has anyone come across this issue? I recently started using the torque app with the BAFX Products 34t5 Bluetooth OBDII Scan Tool. Everything seems to work great. One item that is concerning is how the engine coolant temp gauge on my vehicle is no longer acting as it has previously. I have a 2008 Chevy Silverado with 6.0 liter. My truck display would always read 210 degrees once up to temp. Now, while using the scan tool and torque, my truck gauge will show the coolant temp as 170-200 degrees, it goes up and down. Is the torque app overriding my vehicle gauge? What would cause this to happen?

I have used BAFX ELM327 BT Adapters on Ford
vehicles without issues but I can’t speak for GM.

Engine Coolant is a standard OBD pid. Have you
tried testing without the GM extended pids to see
if it makes a difference?

It acts normal without torque running. I feel like the torque app might be overriding my dash display. I’d love to hear more thoughts.

I know GM likely makes the gauge stable for the dummies out there. I wonder if torque makes is more real-time? Can torque change the dash display in the vehicle?

Is your adapter showing any errors under
Adapter Status icon information?

Torque is sending pid read requests which
shouldn’t be a problem with correctly
specified pids. That’s why I asked about
problem existing without using predefined
pids. You didn’t answer that question.

If your adapter is throwing errors it could
be faulty.

Most of the threads I have read about weird
things happening seemed to be related to
adapters with extra wire level capabilities. The
fix was to specify the correct protocol so an
automatic search wouldn’t trigger the problem
I believe.

To my knowledge BAFX Adapters do not have
that capability.

This is all my opinion and I could be
wrong.

No, I haven’t tried that yet. I have the GM predefined set loaded is all.
