Post WTF?! E46 M3 (N/A) Reading boost in Torque
on: May 30, 2017 (GMT)

Hi Guys,

I have an E46 M3 (’02 flavor with a straight-six N/A motor) and have been using the Torque Android App with a Bluetooth ODB dongle. Recently I added the vacuum/boost readout to my dash and was surprised to find that my N/A car, apparently produces boost! Sometimes up to 20psi!!

Naturally, this is a misread. The question is, whether the problem is with my MAP sensor, or is it a bug within the Torque app. Torque has been actually really good with everything else on my car, so I am honestly suspect of the MAP sensor. However, based on my experience with other factory ECU’s, I would have expected that a high boost reading like this would result in the fuel curve running off the map and causing a fuel cut. The car however, has been running pretty well and although my fuel usage is high, I have not felt it be ‘stupid rich’ and figured it was due to my heavy foot.

Is this a known bug in Torque, or am I doing something wrong?

What does your MAP sensor read KOEO?

Are you at sea level?

Boost is Map minus Barometeric pressure
so at sea level with KOEO should read at or
near zero.

Baro() uses [33] if available, the baro reading
from your phone if available or 14.6 PsiA if
neither are available I believe.

Verify your Boost Calculation Method settings
under OBD Adapter Settings are correct.

Verify your vehicle profile settings are correct.

I am practically at Sea Level – Seattle. I’ll check the setting and get back to ya.

Guys on the M3 forum are saying that the car does not even have a MAP sensor – uses MASS for air metering. Why does Torque register a MAP input?
