Post Unable to read DTC's from 2014 Mazda 6
on: April 28, 2017 (GMT)

I’m trying to diagnose a no-start condition on my 2014 Mazda 6 Touring.

When switched to ON, I see the CEL flash briefly, but hook up my ELM327 adapter and connecting to Torque and reading the codes shows no stored codes. I’ve been able to read codes from this phone / adapter combination on older vehicles in the past. Does anyone have any experience with my particular model, or another phone / adapter combination?

Thanks in advance

When you turn the ignition ON for my
vehicles the Check Engine MIL light will
come on briefly to verify its working.

Are you sure you have DTCs that are not
being reported?

In the past I experienced crank position
sensor failure which did not set a DTC.

Mode 3 returns generic and legislated DTCs.
e.g., P0xxx.

Manufacturer specific DTCs require a different
proprietary way to read codes.
e.g., P1xxx.

Ya pretty sure there is a code because when I crank, the cel is flashing. But I also noticed there were adapter faults in the adapter status. Can’t see what those are when I clicked though

To my knowledge, there should not
be any errors showing for a working
adapter. You might try reinstalling or
better yet try a different adapter if
possible.

Thanks, I think it may have been an error on my part. I pulled the MAF and it threw a code and read it fine. Maybe there just wasn’t a code even with the flashing during crank, or maybe there is a code, but it’s specific to Mazda?
