Post Gear indicator Kawasaki zx10
on: April 5, 2017 (GMT)

Hi all,
This is my first intervention so let me introduce myself briefly. I am a proud owner of a Kawasaki zx10 2017 writing from Spain.
I successfully connected a cheap elm 327 mini to the Kawasaki diagnostic port “KDS”
My objective is the get the gear on the phone so on circuit I don’t struggle finding the standard really small dash gear indicator.
I saw other topics obtaining the gear from the RPM/Speed/gear ratio, in fact some commercial indicators work this way, but as far as I know they are a bit tricky.
I saw a pal that succeeded getting the gear code at this forum http://ecuhacking.activeboard.com/t56234221/kds-protocol/

On fact, the only comm line to the dash where the gear is showed is can so there must be a pid for that, i will investigate.
Is this a very specific command just for Kawasaki or is it a standard code?
Could possible to send this frame to the CPU to get the current gear back?
Thanks in advance, and thanks for this great App!

Hey.
You can create external pids

210b
Gear position
Gear
0
6
x1

a
8011f1
1080

Thanks cintakc!
I know I have this option, but that pid is not working.
I spied a little the bus with the elm 327 ATMA command with protocol 15765-4 11/500 and it is a crazy mess, can’t distinguish any gear clue on the traces. Too many inconsistent data, different message sizes… Will keep on trying

Finally I think I got some successful sniffing. I confirm only protocol y can get communication through is 15765-4 11 bit/500Kb, this is protocol number 6 on the elm327.
This is some data I got, probably full of communication errors due to can bus is probably faster than uart adquisition at 115200bps.

3E2 00 010 00

174 1F 80 00 00 03 6B 06 9C
178 06 80 00 00 21 7A 06

I guess three first bytes are the message id so lets see if the gear is there!

I changed strategy as I couldn’t find the gear message, i am sniffing all messages and trying to create a custom pid but i don’t get what is the pid of the messages. I tried some with no success.
Some that repeat a lot are for example:
174 2d 80 00 00 12 6b 0b 8e
174 1c 80 00 00 09 6b 06 74
174 16 80 00 00 14 6b 0b 00
So where is the pid here?
