I have a fairly long post here that I hope some of you will take the time to help me out with. I will do my best to short word the post so that it doesn’t become a 100 page novel.
I have been using an OBDLink MX Bluetooth for over a year now with the OBD link app for Android and the OBDWiz software for Windows. I have decided to switch to Torque Pro because it appears to be more detailed and more of an in depth program.
I have a “problem truck” that I’m wanting the Torque Pro to help me diagnose.
Vehicle: 2002 GMC Sierra 2500HD; Cab and a half; 8.1 liter; Allison 1000 tranny; 97,000 miles and in beautiful condition. I love this big black truck!
This truck has had an ongoing, very annoying, problem for ‘over’ 2 years. I have never been able to diagnose the problem even with the help of the sierra/silverado forum. A dealership or car center would nickel and dime me to death which is why I have been trying to solve this myself for 2+ years. I am hoping the Torque Pro software and TPro forum can help me diagnose the problem.
There are 3 parts to this post.
Part One: General Torque Pro Curiosity
Part Two: Truck Symptoms
Part Three: Torque Pro HELP/Assistance that I am asking for from the forum
Part One:
I have a stand in the truck that holds my new Windows 10 laptop for GPS guidance purposes. I have an older laptop with Windows XP on it that I want to install Torque Pro onto FOR DIAGNOSTIC PURPOSES to monitor the truck every time I drive the truck. I will just leave this old laptop in the truck so that all I have to do is start the truck and laptop and start driving. When the truck acts up I am hoping the occurrence will trigger some kind of response from the Torque Pro software. I am then hoping Torque Pro can provide a detailed understandable readout/log/printout about what caused the truck to act up. I can then take that report to a mechanic (or me) to repair the problem(s). [I’m a pretty good shade tree wrencher]
So far – with what I’ve said – in Part One … can Torque Pro possibly provide that capability?
Part Two:
Here is what the truck is strangely doing and how I have brought it out of its problems.
1. For no reason the truck will die and not immediately restart. At stop signs/stop lights; going through intersections; around town driving, etc. It has never stalled during highway driving. Knock on wood!
2. I have an EDGE Evolution CTS Gas Performance Programmer Module; it is NOT always plugged into the OBD port
3. I use the EDGE module in Stock, Towing, & Economy modes ONLY; Never in Performance mode.
4. Let’s say the EDGE was previously set for the truck to run in Economy mode. Sometime later (days, weeks, hours – whatever) the truck stalls; it will not restart; just turns over and acts like it’s not getting any spark
5. I plug the EDGE programmer into the OBD port; reset the engine to then run in Towing mode; the truck will instantly start upon the re-programming; I then unplug the EDGE programmer from the OBD port. This all takes about 5 minutes of hustling while the truck is stalled out in the middle of an intersection, parking lot, etc. Pretty dog gone stressful!
6. Steps 4 and 5 can take place and repeat with any interchanging combination of Stock, Towing and Economy modes.
7. Sometimes I can leave the truck sit for half hour to an hour or even overnight (if lucky enough to be at home) and then it will restart without re-programming.
8. The only items I have added to the truck are: Extended Throttle Body, an Airaid Air Intake System, and [in about 2008] a New Rockies VATS security Pro Bypass Module – http://newrockies.com/
9. Maintenance and correction attempts to this point: Improved the engine ground; R&R the throttle body and thoroughly cleaning; asked tons of people for input/advice.
10. NO CODES HAVE EVER BEEN THROWN BEFORE, DURING, or AFTER A STALL!!!!!
Part Three:
HELP that I am asking from the forum:
1. What are the specific vehicle functions that I want Torque Pro to be monitoring to help diagnose my problem?
2. What are all the gauges that should I set up in the Torque Pro program to show stats about?
3. Are all suggested gauges (per the previous #2 question) in the program by default but simply have to be added as gauges?
4. If I need add on’s what would they be and where on the internet do I get them from?
5. Is there any ‘pre log’ setup that I need to perform?
6. Can Torque Pro provide me with a printout file of what engine/tranny circumstances are present at the time of a stall?
7. If Torque Pro can provide report or log files – can the logs or reports be provided as an accumulative report based on ALL of the COMBINED times the truck is started and driven? OR –
8. Every time the truck is started is only a ‘single’ log created and that single log is the only Torque Pro log that can provide a report?
9. For example: I’m trying to see if I can start driving on Day 1 with the laptop running TPro. Then I get to Day 12 and the truck finally stalls after maybe 26 driving cycles in the 12 day period. Can I get a report that shows every day from 1 to 12 (and all included drive cycles) -OR-
10. Do I have to print out an individual report at the end of each driving day or each driving cycle????
9 and/or 10 would provide me with a good summary of the events leading up to a stall.
Thanks for helping me,
dekade
