Hya.
I cannot get that plugin to work. During setup I can only add displays to…Torque itself. Cannot get anything in GoogleNavigate.
Is it just me?

I am just an idiot , not a complete moron.
Maybe this is helpful?

Hi!

Have you enabled the dashboard plugin in your android settings? (you will need to do this first before it will work).

Follow the button from the plugin screen itself, then look for ‘torque dashboard plugin’ and turn it on from that particular android settings screen

Then you should be able to add displays!

I can do two things in the plugin menu.
Grant access and “add widgets!”
First button works, second button does exactly Zero. Zilch.
Opening Torque makez the Red bar visible for less than a second or multiple bars which do nothing.
I don’t think I’m doing something wrong…

That Red bar is only visible in the Torque Home screen. Does nothing IF I can tap it. Weird.

Maybe step-by-step screenshots will be helpful. This plugout only works in TorquePRO on my phone. Quite useless.

Tested using Samsung Tab3.

Launched dashboard app using its icon
on the desktop.

Given step selection:

Step 1: Allow access

Took me to a settings screen on the Tab3
where I enabled the service for the dashboard.

Step 2: Add widgets

At this point it prompted me to start Torque Pro.
After doing so returned back to this step which then
added a red Dash setup bar near top of my Tab3.

Pressing the plus sign enclosed in a circle on the red
Dash setup bar opened a sub menu with the following
choices:

Add display
Help
Quit Dash setup

Pressing add display brings up a select type of display
dialog and add sensor selection which creates a floating
display on the Tab3 screen.

Long pressing the floating display allows removing it or
moving it.

Pressing the x enclosed in a circle on the red Dash setup
bar closes the dashboard setup app.

Not tested in vehicle yet. Just posting my attempt to use
Dashboard app.

Hope this helps.

Edit:

In my case, had to start the MAP or Waze app before
adding the floating display to get it to float on top of
the maps properly.

Works for me. Thanks Ian for another useful capability!

Thnx!
Now I can get one little meter to float over the Torque Home screen.
But that’s it. It will not stay there when Maps or whatever is (re-)opened.
And returning to Torque shows no more floating meter.
Anyone any idea?

Did you try opening Maps then adding the
floating display like I mentioned in the
edited post above?

Note to Ian:

When I drag down my Tab3’s notification list
the message for Dashboard setup says click
to close. However, when I tried pressing the
message a second red Dash setup bar was created
on my Tab3 display.

Closed both red bars using the x enclosed by
a circle.

I tried a lot. But am unable to get a floating meter anywhere else beyond Torque. Not over Whatsapp. Not over Maps. Not over Chrome. As soon as Torque is no longer visible, the floating meter disappears as well.

In my case, I deleted my test floating
displays then started Maps and then added
a floating display while the Maps app was
on the screen.

Then did the same with Waze.

Shutdown my Tab3 after closing open apps
for sleep.

Today I restarted my Tab3 then opened Torque Pro.
Next I started Maps and Waze apps again and they
both had the unique floating display on top that I
had added last night.

I believe the critical step is to add floating displays
while the desired app is currently running so the
Dashboard setup app can associate the floating
display to its linked app.

Today I didn’t need to launch Dash setup again, only
Torque Pro, to get it to work after the associations
were made last night.

There is no way that I can add meters anywhere else but in Torque.
That Red menu-bar only pops up in Torque, will eventually let me glue a meter somewhere but only in Torque.

After you start Torque Pro, are you using your
device’s task key to return to the device home
screen so Torque is running in the background?

Then start Dashboard app to get a floating red
bar.

Launch Maps app (the floating red bar was still
available above the maps screen.

Then add the floating display.

This is what worked for me.

Sorry that I’m not able to communicate these
steps more clearly.

I do understand your perfectly mapped plan.
But…That Red bar to add meters will only pop up in Torque.
It is, on my budgetHuawei, not possible to get that Red bar in another app/widget.

Hi

Just to check you haven’t disabled background apps on that device as it sounds like you have the device closing apps as soon as they’re not visible

Go into the android settings – if you have ‘developer options’ enabled then check in there to make sure you haven’t turned on any options that would immediately kill background apps from running. There may also be some other huawei options elsewhere to this effect in the android settings too (though I can’t be sure as I don’t have access to that huawei tablet to know)

With some low-end android devices, they can be configured to be quite limiting on background processes (ie: some old ones kill any backgrounded apps whenever they can – not recommended in android as it needs them to function at the system level, not to mention other developers apps). Make sure you don’t use any ‘task killers/optimizers’ as they can also kill off apps prematurely (leading to what I suspect to be happening in this case)

TorquePRO and the Torque Dashboard are protected. Do they remain Active even with the screen blacked out. On this phone ( and not a tablet, jfyi ) I have literally 2 downloaden apps. One is paid for, as I do support your effort, being TorquePro. The other one was free, and it gives me the €&@#*?¢?¶¥°|!, because Torque Dashboard is nothing but trouble on my phone.
No fancypancy dev.apps, not rooted, zilch. Basic, standard and free of malware. Even got the Chinese bloatware still on it.

By now I am able to get twenty red-bars on the TorquePRO home-page but Zero on any other app/widget. Even tho Maps or Car (the Googly-ones) is Running on the background , tapping that + on top of the screen will add, Yes indeed, the 21st red-bar in TorquePro, and, Yes again, that was re-opened after opening Maps and not finding that red-bar.

Worst part is…it drives me Bonkers. Full-retard. So if if any of the readers are offended, I do apologize, but only after I got that Dashboard working!

Look, on top of the screen you can see that TorquePro, Dashboard setup and Maps are running. So what is going wrong?

Hi there,

I found the same problem with the plugin. But I tried the steps below and it worked for me:

1) Run Torque;

2) Go to: Settings -> System/App ops -> Search e select “Torque App”.
If the “Draw on top” option is enabled, disable it;

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B69XyfjJ–QAaWdiMDZreVRsYUE/view?usp=sharing

3) Quit Torque and Run again, leave running in background;

4) Open the Torque Dashboard Plugin (certify that step 1 was done).
Select the Step 2. The screen of plugin will minimize and the “Dash setup” will don’t appear. But will be running in background (check the indicator in status bar);

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B69XyfjJ–QANFBHVzhBY3VscGc/view?usp=sharing

5) Open the Android “Search Apps” and leave open;

6) Then, go back to settings and enable the “Draw on top” option. The red bar of the “Dash setup” should be appear… If doesn’t, go back one nivel to the “App ops”;

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B69XyfjJ–QAdklKY1dsRDQyOG8/view?usp=sharing

7) Now, use the Back button of Navigation bar until the Android “Search Apps” appear and choose the Application (ex. Maps) that you want use for overlaying Torque’s displays.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B69XyfjJ–QAaEgwTHhhZlRSZk0/view?usp=sharing

Example:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B69XyfjJ–QAUE5uWVRJLXVXTHc/view?usp=sharing

That’s was the only form that I found for make the plugin functional.
Obs. I followed these steps using Android N (7.0) installed on the Xiaomi Redmi 2.
