on: November 18, 2016 (GMT)

Just updated to the new version of Track Recorder
and found it seemed to work briefly then keeps
stopping. Subsequent attempts to use not working.

While it was working briefly tried looking at options
and found storage location just presented an empty
box with a cancel button. Its not recognizing my sdcard
which was previously set as default on prior version.

Tested on a Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4g.

Hi!

Thanks – will have a look at this – there are currently 2 versions (one for android 5.0+ and the one for older phones which have a different camera API), I re-wrote most of the track recorder app for both new and old devices this week and there may be a couple of teething issues whilst I get things sorted out

Edit: If you uninstall and reinstall (and the SD card is accessible – ie: not plugged into your computer) then it should work and the directory should be selectable in the settings. If the SD card is mounted on your computer then it’s possible that it won’t be accessible to the app

Uninstalled then reinstalled per your instructions.
Track Recorder working again but getting same
empty message with cancel button for location
setting.

When I tried playing a recording got stuck in a
loop saying no recordings record something…
had to use task manager to return to Torque.

I had previous recordings so Im guessing they
are no longer supported in this version.

SD card used exclusively for the phone. I send
files over bluetooth when needed.

Legacy Map ON/OFF icon shown on play
screen doesn’t match the new icon on
main screen.

Edit:

Still no timestamp or clock display available
for recording.

Hi!

Ok – I’ll look into that to get it fixed! The old recordings should still be supported so will likely be related to the other storage location issue that you seem to be having (it possibly can’t find them)

Poked around the file directories and found
my new recording was stored on the phone
whereas my older recordings were stored on
the SD card which is no longer being recognized
like it was in previous version.

Another interesting finding… gallery seems to find
the older recording but not the new one. While it
didn’t show the gauges, it did show the text values.

I noticed on the app download site you have
a screenshot with display types not available
when I try to add. (Graphs, Histograms, etc.)

Hi!

(Track Recorder(both versions) were updated again today to fix a few reported issues, more features, etc, etc)

There are 2 versions of the track recorder plugin out (which is where some confusion may be coming from). One for pre android 5.0 devices, and the new one which runs on Android 5.0 upwards both are on the same page on Google Play (which shows you the best one for your device)

The old one can’t encode videos directly on the phone. The new one can, that’s the main difference. There are other minor differences in the number of display types supported as well. I’ve had to split them into 2 versions as there are major differences in how both versions work (and I can take advantage of the APIs and hardware on newer android devices to greater effect)

Saying that however, I’ve just released a major update to the older recorder as well today, to bring it as close to the new version as I can get it (excluding most of the features available to Android 5.0 and above).

If you have an issue (focus, etc) can you let me know what version of Android you’re running so I can look at the correct version –

– for example, focus can be set to infinity on the new android 5.0 version via the settings in the plugin(you will need to enable it as it is disabled by default due to compatibility issues on some devices), but the older one currently cannot do forced focussing due to a couple of other compatibility issues with the older camera apis)

After today’s download…

My storage location is showing a device
/mnt/sdcard with 0 space free. My sd card
has over 90% (3Gig) free.

My files utility shows /mnt/sdcard/external_sd
as the sd card’s root directory when browsing files.
This is different than what is presented in storage
location settings. Not sure if it makes a difference.

In short, the USB storage is still being used even after
selecting the presented choice for sd card.

The graph, histogram and bar graph displays seem
to be available now and working with Z axis.

Still no clock display or timestamp?

Previous older recordings on sd card are not
found.

Edited.

Hi!

Was the SD card mounted on a computer at the time? (If it was then it won’t be accessible to android and will likely report 0 free space, or if there is some other access issue with the card, for example if it was mounted in read-only mode after being disconnected from the computer without ‘ejecting’ it first, though android should tell you if there’s a problem with it)

Androids external paths on some devices may have several ways to get to the same place (/external_sd, /sdcard, /mnt/sdcard, /storage/external_sd, etc, etc ) from things called symlinks in the filesystem. The plugin is likely seeing several places that basically point to same real ‘place’ and is removing some of the duplicates (you’re still left with the same locations, though they may be named differently due to the symlinks)

Not all displays are implemented in the older version (mainly due to how they get their data) though I could add a video timestamp option in the settings to be displayed as part of the text at the bottom of the display

No. This was working correctly in the older
version. It was set to record my videos on
the sd card which had the greatest amount
of free space. Not connected ever to a
computer. I transfer files over bluetooth
when needed.

Worked before the latest updates.

Hi!

Ok – can you tell me what android version your phone is currently using? (gsmarena says android 2.3, but it could have been updated to a later version since release) – I’ll then try to reproduce it here on a comparable phone and see what’s up

(though it’s odd it’s saying 0bytes free)

2.3.6 Gingerbread.
Model No. SGH-T679.

Definitely odd since my sd card has over 3gig
free.

I noticed while looking at picture details that
/mnt/sdcard was listed for a picture that resided
on my phone’s internal storage.

All the picture details that were residing on the
sd card used /mnt/sdcard/external_sd.

USB storage seems to be using for example,
/mnt/sdcard/download/picture.jpg

SD Card
/mnt/sdcard/external_sd/foldername/picture.jpg

Is the 0 free space a closing forward slash thing?

/mnt/sdcard
or
/mnt/sdcard/

since it looks like the internal USB storage is being
referenced.

Edited.

Hi!

Thanks – looking into it that now and will hopefully have it sorted out by tomorrow evening at the latest.

Couple of things though: one is that google play is likely going to stop working on that device early next year (and likely it’ll be soon!) – http://www.panarmenian.net/eng/news/226339/Google_Play_services_to_drop_support_for_Android_23_Gingerbread_in_2017

Also, (and I hadn’t noticed this) that the part of the app apk file is over the size limit for android 2.3 anyway, so i’m a little confused as to how the app is currently even running on there (due to a limitation in android 2.3 which prevents the latest apks from being used, and you need those to use the latest track recorder updates)

There are however some custom ROMs available that’ll update it to KitKat (so you can continue to use Google Play), though I’m not familiar if it will impact the device speed or not: https://www.gogadgetx.com/best-custom-rom-for-galaxy-exhibit-4g-t679-stock-and-jelly-bean-based/

At the moment I’m looking into the dex issue as it’s currently way too big to work in anything less than android 4 or above, and I’d like to get this sorted for one last release before google drop android 2.3 support completely

Thanks for the info… no noticeable problems
running the apps other than this storage location
issue.

I tend to use things to their fullest… hence my
daily driver is an OBDI 1995 Jeep :-).

If this is not an easy fix for obsolete hardware then
I fully understand if you don’t want to pursue further.

Either way THANK YOU for all you’ve done.

Hi!

It’s not difficult – just been finishing off the needed changes (in both versions) to get this little bug fixed. The testing with quite a few devices now though is time consuming

The 0G free issue is simply that it’s an integer and cant display 800M free (or whatever it currently is

The 0G free issue is simply that it’s an integer and cant display 800M free (or whatever it currently is <1G). This is also now fixed in the update
