Post No Data on EOT PID on 2006 Ford F250
on: October 2, 2016 (GMT)

Ok so running into a complete Block here. I have an ELM 327 and connects to the Torq Pro with no issues. I get many different gauges to work fine, i.e. RPM, Coolant temp and so forth. But i absolutely cannot get the Engine Oil Temp to display anything. i have added the Custom PID and checked it time and time again. When I run Test after checking PID is has a return of no data. Am I doing something wrong? Could the ELM only show me certain things while not displaying others? Below is the Config i have for the current setting on the EOT. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Running On Galaxy Tab, Android Version 4.2.2

OBD2 Mode and PID: 221310
Long Name: Engine oil Temp
Short Name: EOT
Min Value: 0.0
Max Value: 300.0
Scale Factor: x1
Unit Type C
Equation: (((A*256)+B/100)-40
OBD Header: Auto
Ding Start Command: nothing filled in here
Ding Stop Command: nothing filled in here

Try testing with different headers e.g. blank
and headers specific to your protocol.

Also your equation given above has an uneven
number of parens.

Sorry I am super New to all this. What do you mean by Blank Headers? Yes Here is my current settings on that PID

((((A*256)+B)/100-40)*(9/5)+32

As a Side Note I do not see anything in the RAW data portion when looking for EOT.

Could you look under the adapter status
icon functions and tell me what protocol
your vehicle uses?

Blank simply means leaving the header field
empty.

If you are creating your own equations please
check the number of parens. Should be an even
number.

Torque does include a predefined set of pids
for Ford just in case you were not aware.

Torque will convert °C to °F if preferred settings
are set to °F. Check settings.

The raw hex response needs correct header and
pid to return data assuming this pid is available.

Hi!

Also, worth noting, in the equation you’ve given, you don’t want the ‘*(9/5)+32’ at the end and is best to remove it completley (then put C in the units).

The app will auto convert this for you to F if you select F in the units settings. Putting it in the equation doesn’t need to be done and helps keep things a lot simpler (the units will update when the dial receives fresh data)

Ok having a hard time tying to find the OBD2 data info you were wanting under the adaptor. I did go into settings and added the Ford(power stroke) PIDs in the selected box. I was reading on here that I should see two Engine oil temps. One that’s says temp and and other that says temperature. I only have one and on occasion will see the temperature show up under adding other displays. I am not sure if I have this thing so fubared that I should do a clean wipe of the app? I had deleted the app once but after I re installed the customer PIds were still there.

Also under that available Sensors where is says “your Engine ECU said it supports these OBD sensors” it doesn’t list Engine Oil Temp

That is for OBD Mode 1 pids. The mode 22
extended pids in the predefined set are not
part of that list.

Since your vehicle uses CAN, I would add the
predefined set then edit/test the EOT pid for
a raw response using the default header first
then blank and 7E0.

If you finally get a successful response then go
to the realtime dashboard then menu to add a
display using the correct long name of the pid.

Sorry for that. It’s a bit overwhelming
at first but you will catch on.

At this point I would suggest posting on a
vehicle specific forum for Torque users
with a similar vehicle… to see if they got
this pid to work or is the pid different.

The custom pids were for older Fords.

I think you have to many “(” in your equation?

I think it should be

(((A*256)+B)/100)-40

I will double check. I would sure hate to but a 400 monitor for one single display :( Would that formula cause there to be a No response though? Sorry new to this.

Double checked and that may have been a slip of the finger on the extra “(” I have deleted the app, reinstalled, clear all the PIDs, everything. Again most items work except for the Engine Oil Temp

I thought I was good at this but when I got knee deep into it, I was humbled. Thanks for Capp777 to set me on the right path. I’m sure my wife wished I’d have a drinking problem instead LOL.

Are you testing for a response in the create PID mode?

Test under the Add/Edit Predefined PIDs and post the response.

Might even just try “A” in the equation and post the response and then “B”.

I know it is working on other trucks.
