I am using the Torque Pro app with an Arduino.
I can access the pin values, digital inputs/outputs and analog inputs, but need a way to access the internal variables in the Arduino. Can anyone help me out here?
Also, how do you access an analog output pin from the Arduino, using the Torque app? Thanks for the help.

Nobody using an Arduino with the Torque app?

Hi!

To access the analog output pins, do you mean to get the app to set a value on the pin, or just read the current state of that pin (after something else has set it?)

Also what do you mean exactly by internal variables on the Arduino? – you can modify the code to provide access (and then pass that info to Torque) or do you mean something else?

I can read the analog input pins. I haven’t been able to read an analog(digital PWM) output pin.

By internal Arduino variables, I mean variables internal to the Arduino code that aren’t tied directly to a pin.

Here is an example:

VolumetricEfficiency = pgm_read_float(&VETable[TPSLookup][RPMLookup]);
TPSMapvalue = pgm_read_float(&VETable[TPSLookup][RPMLookup]);
MAPMapvalue = pgm_read_float(&MAPTable[MAPLookup][RPMLookup]);
AFRtarget = pgm_read_float(&AFRTable[MAPLookup][RPMLookup]);
dTPS = pgm_read_float(&dTPSTable[dTPSLookup][RPMLookup]);

InjectorONtime = (LbsFuelMin / (InjectorFlowRate / 60)) * (((60/RPMValue)*2)*1000); //Injector ON Time

Hi!

You mean variables that are made up from several inputs and then push them to the app?

If so, then you’ll need to modify the arduino code to advertise those variables, then push those responses to Torque (just like for a digial pin) as in the example on the wiki for digital/analogue reads. Torque will then know they are there and will let you add displays for them

(at least that is how it is working here – as long as the format of the advertised sensors are correct then you should be able to add the relevant displays)

That’s exactly what I mean. The sample Arduino code from Torque is set up like this.

Arduino Pin, Arduino pin type, Input/Ouput, Default value(if output), ShortName, Long name, units, minimum value, maximum value

“1”, DIGITAL, IS_OUTPUT, “0”, “Var1”, “Variable Out 1”, “bit”, “0”, “1”

Nine elements. The first element is a pin number.

I can’t find the Wiki on Digital/Analog read.
How do I send the sensor data to Torque without using a pin assignment?
Thanks for your help.

Hi!

You’ll need to modify the arduino code (as in the wiki) to use your calculation instead of reading from a pin. Maybe use -1 or a blank as the pin number to denote an internal calculation, and then catch this in the arduino code further down

However, if you /really/ mean that you want to add these as calculated PIDs in the app (ie: push the equations to the app so it calculates) then you can’t do this yet. (though you can calculate this in the arduino and do it that way as described above in the interim until I add support for pushing equations to the app as well)

Thank you very much for the help! I got it working reading the internal calculated variables.

Hi! No problem

quick question – did you delete the code post, or did it never appear (I’d like to include it in the wiki if that’s ok with you, for others)

Here is a video of it working.

Hi, I try to run your code but can’t compile I have the next error: ‘RPMTRIGGER’ was not declared in this scope.

Wich version of arduino IDE you use? I have 1.6.9

Any advice?

I want to use Torque with arduino because I have a non OBDII car.
Thanks

I have 1.6.1

RPMTRIGGER is declared in the setup routine. This is for a Mega2560. If you don’t have a board with pin 2 attached to an interrupt, it won’t work as written.
Just remove the entire RPMTRIGGER interrupt from the bottom of the code.

I try but now I have error on this part:

if (test == 0) {
fromTorque.toUpperCase();
processCommand(fromTorque);
fromTorque = “”;
} else if (c != ‘ ‘ && c != ‘\n’ && c !=’\r’) {
// Ignore spaces.
fromTorque += c;

I get error:

error: ‘c’ was not declared in this scope

looks like a bit got chopped before posting – the bit that is missing looks like it should be something close to(you will need to mod) from the original example:

 if (mySerial.available()) {
     char c = mySerial.read();
     if ((c == '\n' || c == '\r') && fromTorque.length() > 0) {
        fromTorque.toUpperCase();
        processCommand(fromTorque);
        fromTorque = "";
     } else if (c != ' ' && c != '\n' && c !='\r') {
        // Ignore spaces.
        fromTorque += c;
     }
  }

Or similar

Yes, you are correct. Some of the code got chopped when posting. The “Code” function at the top of the reply window doesn’t like certain syntax. I will repost in a better way.
