Post Isuzu Rodeo trans temps and other know how?
on: May 4, 2011 (GMT)

I just got this app yesterday and I, like many others, am not receiving trans temp readings. This was a major reason I purchased this and one of the recommended Bluetooth links.
Anyway,
If anyone has any suggestions to dial this in for my Rodeo I would love to see them.

Hi

Transmission temperatures are very dependant on the manufacturer support for them. Sometimes the PIDs are available via generic OBD spec, or via the transmission control module. If you’re not getting any readings for either of the 2 methods, then it means your vehicle does not support readings via those 2 standards…

However, if there is a temperature sensor in the transmission, then it may be available via a MODE22 (extended) PID, which if you manage to find that information out, can be added to the apps extended PIDs enabling to get at that sensor.

Getting the PID may require some digging around on the internet, it’s usually quite difficult to find as they are manufacturer dependant. You’ll need the PID, and the Equation associated with it to get the value. Someone on an Isuzu specific forum might have the information you need

Hmmm,
That will take some digging around. Just did a brief search and was unable to locate anything specific to that but I am sure it is out there. It is a GM 3.2 V6 so I will have to see if it is paired with a GM Trans. I believe it is the same set up as the Honda Passport, but I am not sure.
Regardless, I am in Mexico traveling for a month and don’t have the ability to upload data on my phone here….unless I can do it through my laptop.
I did monitor my coolant temp and since part of my trans cooler is a heat exchanger in the radiator there is a relationship.
Any help is appreciated greatly.

Hm,

If it is a GM engine (and presumable GM ecu?) then if you (are on the latest version of the app, 1.4.69) go into the settings->Advanced settings->Manage Extended PIDs, press menu and choose ‘add predefined set’, there is a set of GM extended PIDs that has a ‘transmission fluid temperature’ pid that might work. That’s just off the top of my head, if it doesnt work, then some detective work will be required!

Regards,

Ian

Thanks Ian,
I’ll give that a whirl today and let you know.

Ian, you’re a genius!
I now have functioning transmission temperature!
Would’ve been nice before I drove almost 3000 miles in baja but I’ll take it.

Torque did allow me to see my coolant temp all the way and since there is a heat exchanger in addition to my external cooler I figured I had a reasonably close guesstimate…..
I never did get a trans temp overheat idiot light but I did get a check trans and mis-shift issue that Torque allowed me to reset, thank goodness.
The code was for the “A” shift solenoid and I am going to have a little talk with the guy who rebuilt my tranny.
Thanks again,
Frank

Just got my Google Nexus 4 and the trans temp wasn’t reading. I just checked in here and applied the changes.

We’ll see if it works when my wife gets back… I sure hope so!

I am towing 1500 miles into Mexico next week and I sure like knowing how my transmission is feeling.
