Support for SSM via 409.1 cable with FTDI chip would be nice. Cheap and fast communication.
It’s also will perfect gift

Would also like to vouch for SSM / SSM2 / SSM3 support :)
Being able to do Subaru diagnostics using torque would be a huge seller.

The chinese have already made “semi” cheapSSM3 tools which clone the factory tools. Original costs about 3k, the cheap chinese knockoffs are in 500USD-700USD range.

Hi guys.
I found the way how to read parameters from ECU via usual CAN bus (this is for forester from 2007). This is a mixture of CAN and SSM. All you need is to set elm327 to CAN 500/11 (ATSP6)
Adress for elm327 should be “7E0”

Then you need to send messege
A8 00 00 00 08

ECU response
E8 00 00 31

31 – is the temperature of coolant in hex +40, so actual temperature is 31hex=49dec 49-40=9 degrees Celsium

The problem is that i can’t add “A8 00 00 00 08” as an extra PID, because Torque allows only 3 byte PID address

Maybe you know how to add 5 byte PID to torque?

Did you try adding it from a text file using
“Other” as a template. Not sure if Torque
will read the pid correctly though.

Torque through the csv file can produce 4-byte requests
5 bytes can not

As i know, nissan also use 5 byte PID, there is a plugin for nissan, so i think it should be possible to create subaru plugin. Just need to study Android programming =)

I have a 2004 Outback that constantly gets the 420 code and bought the torque pro so I could log when the code is generated but when I had the display gauge nothing happens and was wondering if the parameters need to be set and if they do what would those parameters be. I’m having an ongoing conflict with Subaru as they said an ECM upgrade was done at 17000 miles to eleviate the code popping up at around 35000 the same code kept popping up so I replace all the the Cats and the O2 sensors. This is a California model so that might have something to do with it. Just want to see if I can take a trip and log everything and show Subaru exactly when the codes gets generated and why it comes up on bank 1 and not bank2. Any help would be appreciated.

I have connected my OBDKey version 1.40.Build 00104 to my JDM Subaru Outback 2004 SSM2 protocol using Nexus 7 android version 4.2.2 and Torque pro version 1.8.70 but it worked only first 20 second and then stopped because Torque cannot talk to the ECU. (reinstalled Torque pro, reconnected device couple times did not help).
Can somebody explain whats happened?

I think this is a software problem, because it worked great first 20 seconds and I received all real time readings. :)
Yesterday as Sinclair recommended I sent the debug information to Ian J Hawkins and I hope we will get some support to solve this task…..

Hi!

Is it’s possible that you can resend the debug – for some reason it never arrived here

Hi Lan,

I have already sent the debug info again, please just let me know if you need something to help you to fix it. :)

Thanks – can see a couple of issues I’m looking into now (unfortunately I managed to cook my obdkey and released the magic blue smoke so have to wait for another one to be sent)

Can you confirm that you only have 1 bluetooth device connected at that time (and not other things like handsfree/music streaming, etc, even if idle)

Hi Ian,

I confirm, I don’t have any other Bluetooth devices.

Couple days ago I used my Samsung galaxy S3 android 4.1.2 but no differences and I did not have any problems with pairing nexus 7 and OBDKey Bluetooth. By the way I have OBDLink MX Bluetooth and it works perfect with this (same) Nexus 7 + Torque Pro with my friend’s car USDM Mitsubishi which is OBD2 compatible.
Before I mentioned that the connection between ECU and Torque was happened only first time (20 second) when I connected OBDKey to my car. After that no communication with ECU.

Hi guys! we resolved this task when we update OBDKey device to build # 00105, so it was OBDKey issue.
Thank you Ian and Sinclair for your support, great JOB!

Hello all.

Sorry for my poor english (in good french… Lol)

I had a Legacy turbo (eudm) on wich i made a bord computer with an Arduino.
Communication with ssm protocol was very slow.

Now i have got a 2000 wrx and discover your app. So, byby Arduino!
But i’am lost in choice of obdkey and how to select SSM protocol…

Do I use this? http://m.obdkey.com/
Or another one?

Hi! Will the Torque work with KKL USB adapter (K-line)? I have Subaru Forester XT 2008 (JDM) and btSSM (on play.google) works fine, but it has no widgets… I bought the Torque in hope it will work. But still nothing.
