Just thought I’d add my 2c

I have a JDM 2002 Forester XT (SG5 Model)
I used to have a JDM 03 Legacy GT-B

2nd car Torque + ELM327 Bluetooth worked fine, got all real time data, could check for faults etc..

The forester on the other hand it connects to the adapter, I can get fault codes (Currently have P0031 :() but it’s only the real time info that doesn’t work

I assumed if my car was SSM I wouldn’t be even able to check codes let alone connect, I seem to be in the middle of everyone elses problems lol

Why can’t the developer of Torque make the app able to connect to a tactrix cable via usb??

WHY WHY WHY.

I have the Parrot Smart and the torque app and i want it to work with the tactrix cable via USB.

BTW i have a 2013 STI.

Any progress on getting SSM over CANBUS implemented?

Ian,
I have access to both a JDM and USDM Subaru ECU (2003 and 2002 respectively.)

I also have an OBDKey that reads SSM and I have succesfully connected to both and am able to see limited paramters.

What do you need in order to access more parameters? (I can give you a list of what I’d like to have.)

If you can tell me what you need and exactly what format (with an example so I know what to look for ) I can most likely find them.

There are a couple of freeware options that currently read Subaru ECUs, so I don’t see why Torque shouldn’t be able to do so as well. People say that they are “highly guarded secrets” but if they’re able to log EVERYTHING the ECU sees I don’t see why we can’t access them via Torque.

I’d also be willing to help with debugging and any testing.

I know there would be quite a few guys that would pay good money to have this. I would be willing to pay a couple hundred bucks to get this working.

Please let me know what I can do to help.

thanks.

I found a bit of info on CANBUS and SSM. The details are a bit over my head, I understand the basics of what is going on. Maybey this will be useful to someone??

even though the free/pro versions dont work on my car at this stage. I have still bought the app Pro version… I am sure the Torque dev team deserve the credits :)..

I have a JDM wrx sti V9 2005. just got a elm237 obd2 adapter from ebay. can pair and torque connected with ECU just fine but no data for those Speed/boost/RPM.. so it seems like the obd2 is only sending out fault code? can anyone suggest if I need a different kind of adapter?

cheers

Hi, would like to say thanks for this great app, i purchased the paid version to support what you are doing although i can not get it to work with my SSM subaru, I have sent a debug report, i have put my OBDKEY1.40 into SSM mode using putty on my laptop but Torque cannot talk to the ECU.

Thanks :)

Hello
I use general vagcom usb cable for my 98 forester european.
its simple ftdi connection i guess
I can read ecu fine with my laptop with evoscan or freessm.
But there is no android app that supports usb and ssm.
I have note3.
2 days ago i coukdnt connect to usb, seems last update fixed something and there is a connection to usb, but no connection to ecu :(
This is ssm2 protocol at 4800 baud rate.
Is there anything i could do to help development?

Hi!

Unfortunately, any Samsung device that uses KNOX, will not work with USB connections. This is because Samsungs new KNOX system actively blocks anything from using the USB port

If you need to use USB connections, I would recommend avoiding any of Samsungs current offerings (Note 3, S4) or replace samsungs ROM and KNOX with Cyanogen which /should/ support USB Host mode

Samsung don’t even give the consumer the option to allow USB connections, so at the moment the S4 and Note 3 aren’t going to work with USB as Samsung won’t allow it

You no longer need to put the OBDKey into ssm mode manually as this is all done with recent versions of Torque – (it’s not been required for at least a year when I last worked on SSM Support)

If you’ve not got SSM working, and it’s a vehicle that uses the ISO protocol (CANBUS vehicles aren’t supported for SSM yet) then it’d be nice to know the year that it was built

This is weird. It was not the update that changed things. It was phone upgrade. Just tried my old Note1, it cant connect to USB at all, nothing! (while usb serial terminal works fine with the cable and egnine outputs something), Note1 is on CM 10.2.
With Note3 as soon as I connect OTG, Torque opens up, I can get “Connected to USB” (car is flashing), setting prot to SSM and baud to 4800, after a minute it finally displays “Subaru SSB” for protocol, but still cant talk to ECU. Note3 is on Samsung Touchwiz unrooted. If I open KNOX app, it asks to click “Install” in order to get the “private mobile”. If I have not installed, it still prevents USB? Any dev thread about this?
update: Note3 in Torque usb selector shows FTDI USB device. Also app usb device info shows a lot of info about the vagcom cable. I had no success getting reply with usb terminal though (tried just sending atz, maybe should search for proper ssm commands to get any reply.

what about bluetooth conversion with simple BT chip, would it work in serial communication with torque? (e.g. LINK)

Just FIY, these are screenshots from usb info app:

it is weird that the usb cable and vagcom cable connection is noticed by android, but seems there is no further communication :/

Does anyone know exactly which pins the OBDkey uses for SSM? I ask as i’m using a SSM to OBD convertor from ebay and it’s not connecting to the ECU, i would like to make sure the connections are correct between the ECU and OBDkey

Item number for convertor: 251264407440

Cheers.

ok, so after a bit of reading through the forums i understand there is no support for USB connection + SSM.

Admin, could you please reply what are your intentions for future? Will you add support for USB FTDI connection to SSM? Or should we just drop this silly hope and buy the hyper expensive OBDKEY?

Today i received an email from OBDKEY regarding SSM support.

I think we may be in luck here as they have started a support page for SSM here >>http://www.obdkey.com/obdkey_subaru_support.asp

Typical – I find this thread just *after* buying the OBDLink MX.

I gather that OBDLink MX isn’t supported for SSM (yet)?

I bought the OBDKey Bluetooth specifically for SSM support to use with my Subaru Legacy. I used OBDKey software on my PC to switch the OBDKey to SSM mode.

In the vehicle profile I chose the ‘SSM-2 (Beta)’ protocol and on the ‘Adapter status’ I can see that Torque connects to the adapter, but then soon looses the connection and reconnects (and then repeats the cycle).

When it’s connected, it doesn’t show Adapter Manufacturer or Adapter Version and it never connects to the ECU.

Using the OBDKey supplied software on the PC I found out that my OBDKey is version 1.40, sub-version 00014.

What am I doing wrong?

Support for SSM via 409.1 cable with FTDI chip would be nice. Cheap and fast communication.

Will you continue working on SSM, Ian? If so, that would be the best Christmas gift I would get this year 😛
