Post Relevant information for Hybrid
on: February 28, 2013 (GMT)

Hi all,

First off, a big thanks to the developers of Torque Pro for an awesome app!! Well worth the modest price for it.

A question: what is the most important information to display for a Hybrid car? I’m thinking of:
– GPS Speed
– RPMs
– Torque
– Fuel status
– Throttle

Anything else? Any of the SOC? Which one? Any of the specific hybrid cell? Temperature? Which one?

For those who have a Hybrid (I have a 2012 Camry) what are you displaying?

Thanks!

My major runtime screen consists from battery current, ice rpm, brake cylinder pressure, SOC. The others, secondary are: outside temperature, coolant temperatures, MG1;2 – torque, rpm

Thanks Paja.

So you’re not monitoring the state of the individual batteries that comprise the hybrid system?

Also, is the default SOC figure accurate for you? What kind of car do you have?

I have a few different screens, but the one I gravitate to the most has;
State of Charge, actual traction battery voltage, Current, Coolant temp, ICE revs (so I can tell it’s running and how fast), Friction brake kW (so I can see how much I’m wasting away), all displayed digitally.

I have an ’06 Prius, so these displays are usually the most relevant ones.

Thanks Drafty01, that makes a lot of sense and I like it!!

This is exactly what I was looking for and I will likely have 1 screen with these exact ones.

May I ask what your other screens display?

HI Drafty01, I have been looking for the “Friction brake kW” but I cannot find it anywhere… could it be called something else?

So a quick update for those interested. I have a main screen that I like a lot, and it includes:

– ICE RPM both in real-time Graph and superimposed Digital. This allows me to make sure that I am not at the same RPM for too long during the break-in period and gives me an at-a-glance view of RPMs
– SOC both in real-time Graph and superimposed Digital. This allows me to see if the hybrid battery is getting charged or depleted, and a at-a-glance view of its state of charge. I noticed that it never went below 40% (the engine starts running) and above 80% (even in downhill)
– Coolant temperature, again in real-time Graph and superimposed Digital. This allows me to know when the engine is on temperature, and if this goes up or down
– Altitude from GPS, also in real-time Graph and superimposed Digital. Answers the “is this really flat or not?” and the altitude I am at
– Torque as a half dial (meter) to find out how much I am asking the engine (in lb ft)
– Power as a half dial (meter) to find out how much HP I am getting from the engine

I am still playing with other screens, for example looking at how many HP is the AC using etc. temperatures, etc.

Still looking for the gauge on how much power is going back into the hybrid battery, couldn’t find it…

Can you please provide me with the set of commands for these readings? I have a TCH 2009
Thanks

Follow the instructions from this thread http://priuschat.com/threads/geniii-prius-custom-pids-for-torque-app.98693/

(they are essentially the same as our TCH).

Then you can choose any of the hybrid-specific data as per Torque’s manual.

As an update, I recently added MG1 and MG2 RPMs so as to follow closely what is happening inside the hybrid drivetrain

Thanks for the quick response. I tested something from prius 3, but no success. Probably 2009 has a different protocol. Do you know if it works with TCH 2009?
I am interested to monitor inverter coolant temperature with Scangauge. I also can monitor & log a lot of hybrid parameters with Autoenginuity. But monitoring this particular sensor helps to protect the inverter, expensive part. This is why I need constant monitoring with Scangauge.

Can’t help you on the 2009 TCH, I have a 2012 TCH.

I know that the Prius folks have a different set of PIDs for their 2009 model, maybe those will work with your 2009? That corresponding thread is at http://priuschat.com/threads/gen2-prius-custom-pids-for-torque-android-app-with-formulas.95370/

On my 2012 I have access to the inverter coolant and I am monitoring that as well. The great thing is that I also have some alarms set up in case temperature goes outside range, for coolant, inverter and cabin.

Good luck!

Hey Folks, I have kind of been a lurker on here for many years, occasionally checking out the kinds of things that techs don’t see for toyota/lexus hybrids. SO…LET ME START BY SAYING,,,
I HAVE RESOURCES.
I taught in the Toyota T10 program, have access to Toyota TIS, (THE DEALER version, not the generic for pay version) and deal with the best aftermarket Hybrid/EV training schools in the world.
That being said, I would like to expand my usage of torque for all the Toyota/Lexus hybrids I work on, but would like to know if someone may be interested in building more plug-ins for torque. I also install plug-in-hybrid conversion systems from Ewert Energy. I am looking for help rewriting/ altering the ECU code for performance/economy. and for making hybrid control systems operate outside their normal function.
Does anyone have these talents?
Thanks
Tony

I just bought a kiwi3 and I am wondering if the Torque Pro app will automatically give me trouble codes for the gen2 hybrid system or if I will need to download PIDs or what?

I have a 2008 ford escape hybrid that has the navigation system and on the screen is an option that shows a picture of gas engine running or not, electric motor helping or not and charging the battery or using the battery. Does Torque have any options like this?
I am considering changing out the old navigation for a new android head unit and I want to retain all the info that shows up on my navigation right now. Any help would be appreciated thanks
