I leave mine plugged in 24/7. My 01 ram has never had a problem with it, it’s my daily but even when leaving it for weeks on vacation it still has no problem. The large battery probably helps. Occasionally I leave my headlights on for hours and the truck still starts.

I managed to install the switch. Works like a charm. Thanks for your help!

To be lazy i put a relay on pin16 energized by key current.

Sometimes I do. They do not draw much current ant the one I have does not get hot. I would suggest that you not leave the dongle plugged in if you plan on not driving the car for awhile. The dongles do draw current even when the car is shut off.

Constantly working on it, little by little. It is in pretty good shape.
Using TORQUE PRO for awhile now. Love it.

The dongles do draw tiny bits of current even when the car is shut off. But unless you develop battery trouble or the battery is not properly charging you will have no problems. I know people that leave it plugged in always.

But as far as leaving it plugged in, is that okay? What do you guys do?

It will depend on your reader. I leave my Scantool OBDLink LX plugged in 24/7. It automatically shuts off after 10 minutes of no activity so almost zero power draw until it wakes up again. There is a flashing green light while the device sleeps so power draw isn’t zero.

Cheers!

I have a Wifi ELM327 plugged into my Jaguar XFR and a Kiwi PLX in the Volvo V70. They are left connected all the time and I’ve not had any problems. The cars do get used a lot though.
