How much canbus information can Torque retrieve?
Can it pull most (or any) of the same info that a professional device that mechanics use?

Are the OBDLink devices the only devices that can read canbus?
from this list

1. as much as available on OBDII connector. Beware, that many vehicles do not have direct connection of canbus to OBD – only via gateways, mostly converting full and fast can bus to slow can bus with request-relpy mode.
2. Any adapter with PIC18f25k80 inside will do good job, not only OBDLink.

there is canbus and there is OBDII

torque works mostly with the OBDII standard …since it is…standard lol

most basic stuff is accesible …but it varies by car …

if you have the know how or specific adress you can create a custom PID to have access to a car specific adress and data

and then there is a new option you can see all the data on the can bus… and take what you need … but this one is also tricky and most car now have bridge to prevent you to have direct access to the bus

this bridge is to prevent car thief and hacking if i remember correctly

personnaly i have a obdlink MX and it’s a charm with ford product and probably other

since it can access more than one can bus

cheap one will only access high speed bus… the engine data bus

but obdlink can acces the medium speed bus (that is high speed now anyway lol) so you have access to all the internal data

i can monitor and record my seatbelt status ….just in case lol yes officer i had my seat belt

obdlink also have some advantage if you leave them in the car all the time , they have some deepsleep setting to prevent battery drainage

i also tested the LX, the WIFI …

i also bought a cheap elm 327 ….worked fine….until it died lol

I have a 2015 Honda Accord Hybrid and I’m currently trying the BlueDriver and OBDLink MX+

They are both highly rated but don’t seem to be able to read the same things?

BlueDriver returns the following when scanning all Codes

0 Confirmed Code Codes

0 Pending Code Codes

0 Permanent Code Codes

1 Electric Servo Brake System Code
U3003-16 Battery Voltage : Circuit Voltage Below Threshold

1 Antilock Braking System Code
61-11 Power Source Failure for ECU (Low Voltage)

2 Electronic Power Steering Codes
23-06 Wheel speed data Malfunction
85-01 VSA Signal Failure

When I choose to scan all modules with the OBDLink MX+
it returns 0 codes

I’ve also imported a Honda DBC file into Torque.
But none of the items defined in that file are read.

My Honda CR-V 2011 has MICU, which acts as a gateway between fast internal can bus and OBD, generating only slow can bus in mode “request-reply”, so can bus scanning (which assumes using DLC files) doesn’t work on Hondas.
I have some custom PIDs for Honda, and those are working also on Civics 2014-2016 (i have reports from such car owners), so it can also work for other Hondas.

any idea what I’m doing wrong?

Under “Manage extra PIDs/Sensors” I’ve imported the DBC file.
It shows a bunch of items with the CAN MONITOR icon.

Where should I see if any metrics are found?
If I add a widget and choose one of those sensors, nothing is retrieved.
On the sensor selection screen, all the imported PIDs simply say “No data received”

as i said above – i believe that Hondas do not expose internal can bus to OBD, so – CAN bus monitoring won’t work, so – no way of using DBC files.
Use PIDs in csv files, not for can bus monitoring mode.
Where have you got DBC file for Honda? Who said that it will work on OBD interface?

I tried a few from here

https://github.com/commaai/opendbc

If it’s not reading CAN, where is BlueDriver pulling the following?

1 Electric Servo Brake System Code
U3003-16 Battery Voltage : Circuit Voltage Below Threshold

1 Antilock Braking System Code
61-11 Power Source Failure for ECU (Low Voltage)

2 Electronic Power Steering Codes
23-06 Wheel speed data Malfunction
85-01 VSA Signal Failure

those are failure codes, not PIDs for controlling of states.
And to get hi speed can bus in monitoring mode, zou need to connect to ECU, not to OBD https://www.insightcentral.net/threads/lto-can-bus-interface-with-obd2c-c.125951/

ahh.. i thought since only the BlueDriver was reading those codes it was reading CANBUS.
That’s the only device I’ve tried that read them.

Where can I find a list of extra PIDs to import?
