Post 2003 Ford Excursion 7.3 diesel not communicating with ECU

I cannot get the torque pro app to communicate with the ECU on my truck.

I have tried 3 different adapters:
Veepeak, ELM327, and BAFX.

My android recognizes and connects to each adapter and the torque app also shows connected to the adapter but will not communicate with the ECU.

I have tried different settings, resetting, rebooting, reinstalling.

My truck is OBDII compliant, and the FIXD adapter and app can read and erase codes without issues.

Any ideas of what I should try next?
