Although this is advice from a newby/novice to this app, when I see all the topics here and reviews of the app that relate to ECU connection problems, I feel I need to let people know what solved mine. Here goes:
When you close the Torque Pro app, be sure to use the “Quit” command under the the settings icon. Initially, I was just closing it as a typical Android app and it would then not connect on my future attempts unless I used this approach or did a forced stop in the Android apps manager.

You may already be using the Quit command, but I thought I would just mention it.

I have the exact same issue with a iCarsoft WiFi adapter. After connecting the phone to the adapter, I need to temporarily disable Mobile Data before starting the app. Once the connection between the app and the adapter is established, I can enable mobile data again and the connection will stay stable.

Don’t think it has been like this all the time. Maybe introduced by some Android update? Also, I don’t think this is a solution. It is more like a workaround as it is not very convenient. Hoping to find a solution, preferable somewhere in Android settings. Any suggestions?

similar issue:

the dongle (in my case Vgate pro) sets up an unsecured wifi network called ‘V-Link’. I connect to it, android asks whether it should stay connected given there is no internet, i click yes, as otherwise it’ll disconnect me from it.

open torque (while having mobile network – sim card enabled), works fine.

When i turn off car (turning off wifi and turning off android device and torque app), in android settings it seems to say it’s connected, but in torque it’ll not connect.

I’ve found 2 ways to get it to connect again:
1. forget network in wifi settings and connect again, connects fine.
2. connect to a different wifi network (in my case my home network) then connect to the dongle one – works fine till car is turned off again.

I have also tried to set the IP on android device to static for this network in case it’s a DHCP IP assignment issue… it works fine first time, then when devices turned off, same issue.

I’m running Android 9.0 on my device, and Vgate Pro wifi dongle.

Anyone any suggestions? I’ll try the mobile network disablement see if that does anything – interesting suggestion!

Soo.. apparently Android introduced a security update which prevents other apps, like Tasker, from toggling on or off mobile network (it works with wifi.. not with mobile data…)

So I’m currently having to, like suggested, turn off mobile data myself, then open torque, then turn on mobile data..

Anyone has any ideas why mobile data is interrupting with the wifi connection? Or If we cannot fix this, how to automate mobile data disablement and re enablement upon opening torque app? Thx
