The response you posted for 22F478 is
reporting as 22F46b.

Can you post a working screenshot for
22116C so that I can see the raw data
for the equation. Your original posting
for this was not responding.

It not clear to me about the dpf psi not
working… wrong value or unable to
enter equation due to parens?

Try dropping outer parens if necessary
((A*256)+B)*(11.6/65535) or
((A*256)+B)*0.000177

(((A*256)+B)*0.000135)-0.8005 might
yield closer results?

Edit:

Found screenshot for 22F478.

((B*256)+C)*0.18
((D*256)+E)*0.18
((F*256)+G)*0.18
((H*256)+I)*0.18

would be my guess after looking
at the response data.

You were right, the DPF PSI PID 22116C was not responding even without an equation.

I tried the following on the EGT 22F478 PID and didn’t come up with much.

((B*256)+C)*0.18

((D*256)+E)*0.18

((F*256)+G)*0.18

((H*256)+I)*0.18

Your screenshots are still showing wrong pid for
testing 22F478. You are using 22F46B?

Please verify pid field for 22116c is not
0322116c. It should be 22116c.

Thanks for catching that. I will go out with my laptop tonight and get all of this info again on the correct pids.

Capp777: Does this look right.

This is for the DPF pressure, I’m going to test it later today.

PID – 22116C
Long Name – Diesel Particulate Filter (Pre test)
Short Name – DPF
Min Value – 0
Max Value – 100
Scale Factor – x1
Unit Type – PSI
Equation – ((A*256)+B)*0.000177
OBD Header – Auto or Header

Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)
Pressure

The DPF sensor is a 3-wire variable
capacitance sensor. The PCM
supplies a 5 volt reference (VREF)
signal which the DPF pressure sensor
uses to produce a linear analog
voltage that indicates pressure.

The DPF pressure sensor measures
the exhaust pressure upstream of the
diesel particulate filter.
Used as part of the diesel particulate
filter load calculation for active
regeneration.

IDS: DPF (pressure) and DPF_V
(volts)

That looks fine. You might want to
adjust the max value later… I don’t
expect readings to exceed 11.6 using
this equation.

Edit:

Does your vehicle display show the soot level?

Based on my findings… it is calculated from the
dpf psi. I am curious if there is a linear correlation
between these two values.

No it doesn’t and this is why I would like to get these PID working. My 2008 6.4 would tell me if I was in Regen, but this 2013 doesn’t tell me anything, only a 3 second display when a Regen has started. I would like to complete Regens, starting and stopping them just prolongs less MPG and I believe that they are hard on the engine and exhaust.

I believe that this PID is from one DPF sensor and that the ECM Regen is started by a differential pressure between the pre DPF pressure sensor and the post pressure sensor of the DPF that triggers a Regen cycle. If I get data 22116C then I should know if this is a sum output or What?

DPF Pressure Sensor
The DPF pressure sensor is an
input to the PCM and measures the
pressure before the DPF. The sensor
is a differential-type sensor that is
referenced to atmospheric pressure.
The DPF pressure sensor is used
by the PCM to monitor the amount
of exhaust pressure produced by
the DPF. An active regeneration is
performed when the reading reaches a
specified point.

FYI:
EGT Sensor Operation
The electrical resistance of the
sensor increases as the temperature
increases, and resistance decreases
as the temperature decreases.
The varying resistance changes
the voltage drop across the sensor
terminals and provides electrical
signals to the PCM corresponding to
temperature. The PCM uses the input
from four EGT sensors to monitor the
exhaust gas temperature.

Have you tried creating an alarm in
Torque using the EGT value > 600?

Have you tried the other EGTs yet
to see which is the hottest?

Maybe even an alarm to tell you when
its safe to shutdown if its possible.

Edit:

“The PCM calculates soot load based on DPF pressure and initiates regeneration when soot load reaches the specified limit.”

I have been testing an EGT1 PID that seems to be working by using an infrared thermometer, during Regen it has been reading over 800 degrees on Torque and although a little lower on the thermometer, it’s linear. Although it’s a crude way to tell, I don’t want to start pulling connectors off a new truck at this point. When I do think that I’m in Regen I do see this PID raise above normal exhaust temperatures even higher when I’m pulling a 12k trailer up hills working my truck.

When I confirm this, I’ll probably set the alarm at 850. Darn wife won’t pull the 35 ft trialer so I can play LOL.

I agree. I would think that there is a way to change that pressure reading to percent.

I used to check with ir but used to put black
electrical tape on metal surfaces… but no where
near these temps. Reflective surfaces can cause
inaccurate readings with infrared.

I was hoping that with paired values for dpf psi
and soot level at low, mid and high range we could
calculate slope intercept equation using psi as x.

Based on my findings your regen temps should
reach over 1000°F. Not sure how accurate these
EGT equations are.

Percent? …
[ffxxxx]*8.62069 where ffxxxx is dpf psi
pid. (Using 0.000177 equation. See above).

[ffxxxx]*12.42742 where ffxxxx is dpf psi
pid. (Using 0.000135 equation. See above).

Yep, old man’s trick.
I just want the IR readings to follow the Gauge up and down, not degree to degree.

Added another equation for dpf psi
that you can try. (See above).

Any progress?

Thanks
Not sure what equation you mean?
Seems to be no response for 22116c. Not sure if they changed the PID numbers for the 6.7L built after Jan 2013.

I wonder if there is a 7E3 module…maybe
the 3 in the extra chars?

Just a thought…

These all seem to work except for the Fuel
Coolant
Oil Temperature
EGT1
TFT
Revs
Volts (Ad)
Air Temp

Hope to learn how to post screen shots, I’ll take them when the engine is running

DPF – Still no data (I’ll try the 7E3 tomorrow)
EBP – Data but stays at 65.1 PSI (changed math and try tomorrow}
DIA – Data but stays at 3.0 Miles
LPK(avg) – Data but stays at 3.1 l/100km

You didnt mention EGT12, EGT13 and
EGT14. The equations were given at the
top of this page based upon the test
response that was posted.

Not sure what equation to try. Don’t have the PIDs for the 6.7L yet. I’m more interested in getting the DPF information first.
220991 – No response on the 6.7L – For 6.4L
220992 – No response on the 6.7L – For 6.4L
2209E2 – Try later
22c907 – Try Later
22c908 – Try Later
221171 – No response on the 6.7 – For 6.4L

These were for EGT11, EGT12, EGT13 and EGT14…

Mode/Pid: 22F478

((B*256)+C)*0.18
((D*256)+E)*0.18
((F*256)+G)*0.18
((H*256)+I)*0.18

would be my guess after looking
at the response data.
