Hi Fabrice,

I bring to you my impressions about (maybe only my) freezes issues.

I’ve done tests with stock ROM (gingerbread 2.3.6) and CM9 ROM ICS 4.0.4 (With ICS i get more pid/sec than GB [with GB i get an average of 45/50 pid/sec, with ICS 60])

so in any case freezes still here (I point that is not he app that freezes but the RPM indicator for some tenths of seconds sometimes).

I’ve made a test using the same sensors on original Torque interface: RPM, SPEED, BOOST, COOLANT Temp, G sensor, acceleration widget, (and obviously no gear indicator), and there’s no freezes…

but I’ve noticed that on original Torque interface the RPM reading is slower, it’s seems that RPM sensor is polled less often.

During acceleration and deceleration it seems that Racingmeter try to read every RPM variation:

T0=1400
T1=1401
T2=1402
T3=1403

T10=1410

and some times the RPM indicators freezes

T20=1420
T21=1420
T22=1420
….
T30=1420
T31=1431

(T = time)

On torque instead during acceleration and deceleration it seems that RPM sensor is polled less often:

T1=1401
T3=1403
T5=1405

T10=1410

so the data are showed less smooth, but there’s not noticeable freezes.

Hi!

Thanks for these tests, this confirms what I noticed. The problem is that the freezes are more noticeable with the RPM bar than a digital widget. The only solution is to increase the filtering on the RPM bar (but increase the latency).

I’ll upload a new version with a modified architecture and that will include a setting to decrease/increase filtering as you want.

hi,

for me freezes are on digital indicators…

I dont know how it works, but I think you can set the reading update frequency for each sensor right?

On the current version (1.0.3) it seems that polling frequency on RPM is very high (when I accelerare the unit numbers on digital rpm dial runs very fast (to make an idea they are quick and smooth as a digital chronograph)).

Do you think that is possible to decrease the polling rate preserving the responsiveness?

I mean: supposing that now the RPM indicator is updated every 5/100 of second, if you decrease the refresh to 1/10 of second, maybe the issue will be less noticeable.

Maybe I’m wrong but it seems that freezes happens because of buffer overflow (I dont know if on bluetooth communication, phone memory, or car ECU).

Currently the polling rate is the same for all sensors (period of 20ms), numbers on digital rpm dial and rpm gauge are based on the same value and have the same refresh rate…

Maybe I’ll add an option to set the polling rate. So you will be able to decrease the polling rate without increase filtering.

Edit: I think that the RPM value is less frequently updated in the ECU. and you noticed the problem in torque application too.

Hi,

peut-être je vais dire des conneries, je n’y connait riens en informatique:

that means that the program try to interrogate each sensor 50 times/second?

it’s possible because any Bluetoth adapter can be so fast that there’s a lost sync?

For sure I know that predefined Torque interface does not poll all sensor with the same rate, eg: coolant temp seems to be polled 1 time per second, catalyst temperatures also, instead boost, load and RPM are polled faster but I dont think so fast (at least over bluetooth).

Maybe talk with Ian to have some hints 😉

Yes, period of 20ms = 50 times/second but in v1.0.2 the polling period was 50ms and you noticed the same problem…

I don’t know what’s going on in the bluetooth stack because it is managed by the torque service.

Maybe torque app have different polling rate because it can handle more PID, so it is maybe critical, but I’ll look into that more.

I think the filter is too low, and I noticed that in torque the RPM animation is smoother but less reactive…

The first really good program, whith a correct indication of the current transmission gear. But between one and two thinking a bit much.

But between one and two thinking a bit much.

do you have correctly set the gears ratios?

the best option to set correctly the gear parameters is to check exactly the speed via OBD readings @2000 rpm.
In my case I’ve spot that there’s a little discrepancy between teorical speed (using manufacturer gear ratios specifications) and real speed.

@Fabrice: I’ve flashed my phone with another custom Gingerbread ROM that uses a modded kernel: the freezes issues are completely gone. The sensivity and responsiveness is amazing.
If you can add catalysts temperatures readings and a boost bar (like rpm bar), for me this app will be perfect.

Of course.
The first gear down the speed to 14 km/h from 18 km/h. That’s it. And working correctly. Problem solved.

Quick one….

Is it possible for the plugin to automatically detect the gear. I am asking this because I see I have a problem indicating the speed at 2000 rpm in all the 4 gears. To start with my car is automatic gear selection. Two I can lock the gears only at 1-2, 3 and 4. Meaning I cant select gear 1 and 2 separately to check the speed at the stated rpm.

How do we get this plugin to work automatically without the user input other than possibly the number of gears. I have bought the plugin and I am yet to make use it. I know mine is not a racing car but being a Jeep its more of a track rig but nevertheless I would love to see which gear I am on at any given time.

Thanks.

@Pwned-PS3

you can check the speed at every RPM and the do a equivalence, I think you can be able to understand if is in use 3th or 4rd gear.

Example: you are running at 50 mph in 4rd gear, at this speed the engine rpm is = to 1750, you can calculate the speed at 2000 rpm: (50/1750)*2000 = 57,14 mph

@Fabrice

About license verification, I have sometimes the popup message that comes on saying that it was not possible to do verification. I know that is due to the fact that generally I don’t internet connection in my phone, but how often do you check the license? Sometimes the pop-up messages comes every time I start the program (generally I use it twice: 1 @ the mornig and 1@ the evening when I back home).

Hi!

I went to upload an update, available in few hours on market.

Changelog v1.1.0:
– Increases performance (up to 50%)
– Added several advanced options (acquisition period, filtering, anti aliasing, power management)
– Added mirror screen for HUD.
– Fix minor issues.

@Hiej: I added the boost bar and catalyst temp to my todo list. I need to check this license problem because normally the verification is made one time by month !!

@Hiej:
I added Intake air and catalysts temperatures in v1.1.1. To add them, you must use the GUI Editor. Let me know if all works fine.
The acquisition period is now different according to the data priority.

Hi Fabrice,

Catalysts and intake temps works fine thanks!

________________

I’ve set

Data post Processing = 10
Data acquisition period = 10
the responsiveness and smoothness of displays are amazing, on the next days I will play with these values to find if I can improve any further, in any case just now it already works really fine.
Thanks to have introduced the no blinking “n” option. 😉

I will change the rating from 4 to 5 stars on market, for me the app is very good now.

You’re doing a great job.

I’ve found only one issue starting from version 1.1.0: sometime is difficult to exit from settings options menu.

I’ve had many plugins, but none as impressive as this, is simple, easy to use, fast in the calculation of the gear, and very accurate. Almost impossible to confuse. And also nice.

Thanks for implementing the control issue on or off the screen, I told you by email. And under the continuing problem with the License.

The program is very cheap, less than 2 € and its functionality is spectacular, here are some photos and a video of how I use the plugin on my Renault Megane II, with the modified dashboard. I called as The “TopScreen”.
The first and only Megane, with this screen. (For now jejejejeje)

The screen turns on and off with the car, has wifi, BT, GPS, But no have Network. This is totally autonomous.

Here the images…..

This with Torque, 😛

Sensa, please check the issue of licence. It looks like the plugin will only work if there is internet connection and will ask for licence as long as the device is offline…..

Here’s a new video, created today with stationary operation of RACINGMETER.

With the last version of RacingMeter and Torque, the LAG is minimun. the response is very fast. And my adapter is a Cheaper OBDII ELM327.

Sorry for my English, I´m Spanish!! XD
