Post Music Player Control Buttons
on: June 11, 2012 (GMT)

Hi Ian,

Would it please be possible to add a dial with Media Buttons to control the Music playback from within Torque? I would love to control music as Torque is running at all times whenever I am in the car. Having to move away from Torque screen and back just to forward music is a bit inconveniencing. I have a dedicated Tablet in the car which also contains my music hence this request to intergrate Media Buttons with Torque.

Please see what you can do….. 😉

Edit>>>>> After posting this feature request I came across an interesting solution for controlling music using gestures…. Check out this app in the Market https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.MarksThinkTank.WaveControlPro

However, I would still love to have a Torque dial that controls my media playback from within Torque….. :)

I am still on the look out for this feature to be available with an update soon :)

In the meantime for those who would want to say control their music or use any other widget while Torque is running without having to bring up a new app or exit/eclipse the Torque dials I came across the Floating Widget app which will serve as a temporary solution as we wait for Ian to implement the Media Buttons…. Hi!

Done, ready for 1.6.10 (doesn’t work for things like spotify as it doesn’t appear to support it) – works for the default android music players (as well as a couple of other packages)

Thank you Ian for implementing this feature in the upcoming update. looking forward for the release of the new update.

Please clarify what you mean by “Push Button widget” as indicated in the changelog. Will this be a standard widget in the homescreen or a dial that can be placed in Torque’s Realtime Information screen like the GPS Positioning, Clock, Eco Warrior etc….

“Push button widget now supports music player commands (next, pause, previous) for music players that support it”. Perhaps the Pause button will also perform the “Play” functions?

Finally I hope Uber Music Player is supported….. :)

Hi

It’s the pushbutton widget(I should have said ‘display’), not in the homescreen of android, but in the ‘realtime information’ screen (where the GPS Position, compass, etc widgets are)

EDIT: Just tested with that paticular player (I like the design of it) – unfortunately the dev hasn’t seemed to implement support for the music control events or media buttons (apart from togglepause, which just stops the music and won’t start it).

I’ve left a nice comment, poking for support – might be worth contacting the developer as well from your side and asking him to support the ‘com.android.music.musicservicecommand’ intents (the default android player supports these)

Hi. The latest updates are still going further tests according to the latest info on the Changelog thread. http://torque-bhp.com/forums/?wpforumaction=viewtopic&t=3.0

You must thus be on 1.6.8 which is the most recent release in the Market…..

Thank you very much for the Music Control buttons. I have written to the developer of Uber Music app to support the media button functionality as suggested as well as to the developer of Car Music Player which I also frequently use in the car (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mapletree.android.musicplayer)

I have noted that the Pause button also plays the music when you press it after pausing. However the buton still reads “Pause”. I was hoping there could be another Push button dial simply named “Play” just to make it feel natural… :) I tried to add two “Pause” buttons to the screen and rename one to “Play” but when I went to edit after long pressing I found out that the Rename functionality is no longer available. Could you please add the “rename” functionality to the menu or maybe add an additional push button dial similar to “Pause” button but named “Play”? :)

No problem.

Open Torque > Realtime Information > Scroll to any Screen with available free space > Long Press on the Screen > click Add Display > Scroll to the last Dial on the menu called Push Button and click it > you will see Music – Pause, Next and Previous > Clicking on either addds the dial on the screen.

I hope you know how to arrange the dials on the screen….. Long press on any dial you have added then > Move Display.

Hi

Yep – it’s on the list, I’ve been busy with the Track recorder updates the last week or so getting it working on as many devices as possible. Normal service will resume soon :-)
