Post Torque pro profiles all disappeared!!
on: February 11, 2022 (GMT)

I sent an email to the developer listed on the play store page, but regret I didn’t include these details.
I am currently running version 1.12.32 of Torque pro. I use this app several times a month on several vehicles and as of last week had 3 saved profiles with custom real time data layouts and some custom PID’s, and all was fine. Today I tried connecting to a vehicle not stored as a profile and noticed I have NO PROFILES! I believe it’s possible I was using version 1.10.258 the last time I had saved profiles appear. Could the 1.12.32 update have removed all my vehicle profiles? I have not done the app updates to the Feb 4 or 5 2022 revisions. I have a Samsung S9+ running android 10, One UI version 2.5. The only change/update to the phone was the latest security update from Samsung. I only do manual updates from the play store.

I doubt I can restore the saved profiles and will have to spend a lot of work to recreate them. I really need to know what could have caused this issue so as to not have it happen again.
:edit: I have no additional SD card storage on this phone, it’s all internal built in 64GB storage

Hi!

It’s possible the profiles are still there – on the old version of Torque they are kept in the ‘.torque’ folder on the external storage (ignore the name, even if you don’t have an SD card, it’s still called ‘external’ storage). The ‘.torque’ folder is treated as a ‘hidden’ folder so you will need to set whatever filemanager you use to be able to view hidden files and folders

On later versions this moved to the /sdcard/Android/data/org.prowl.torque/files folder (still not an sd card, ignore the name)

There’s no code to delete actual profiles in the old version unless you press the ‘delete’ button in the app on a per-profile basis (which I assume you haven’t), therefore the files will still be present. However because the older version is on shared storage, it’s possible another app/filemanager/etc could have remove them, however I do not know how you have your device setup (it’s also possible the update could have moved things around – I don’t know what samsung has put into that update)

In the latest app versions there is a backup and restore function which can back the entire setup to a zip file which can be saved to things like google drive/external storage providers/etc

Ok, cool. Looks like I found the files in the .torque folder, but how do I restore them to the app? I tried going to backup/restore, restore all settings (restore all app data), and selected internal storage where I can see the files (“vehicles” files are dimmed), but see no way to restore them from there??

I guess it’s a good thing my profiles are still on my phone, although hidden from the app, but I still can’t figure out how to get them restored! If I could somehow get them to backup to a zip file, how could they be restored back to the app? Hoping for some answers.

Hi!

Go into the main app settings->Backup and Restore->import legacy .torque folder

It will take you to the legacy folder location, click ‘use this folder/location’ at the bottom of the screen

And all your data will be re-imported to the new location. This change happened because google forced a change on developers requiring them to move to the storage access framework if they wished to continue to update their apps

Hi there.
I had the same issue and just used Total Commander to move the files from the original folder in .\.torque to the new location in .\Android\data\org.prowl.torque\files.
Restarted the app and everything was back as usual.

This has given me some headaches the last couple of days due to my setup with personal PIDs and special layout.
A very big thank you for this solution.
