Hi Ian, the local folder logging is not working recently.
I had retrieved log files earlier.. last saved file was on 25 Nov 2021.
But there are no log files for my recent rides..
(I have enabled auto logging in app)
Please support..

Hi!

The logging locations moved in recent versions due to Googles updated policies requiring developers to use Scoped Storage.
This means the logging location had to change as a requirement from Google

The new location is in the apps internal data directory. The logging location (shared) also moved to /sdcard/Documents/torqueLogs in the latest vesions

Hi Ian, that was right . I found the files.. but all of them are 0B files, with no data points.. is there something that I have to change in settings?

Hi Ian, please reply about solutions to obtain the log files with data..
There is no point spending on the hardware and app with no data being recorded.. please support ASAP

I am in a similar situation. The only log files I can find that are not 0 bytes are in the triplog folder but those are all in the wrong units no matter what unit settings I have set.

Hi!

Trip logs are used internally by the app, they are not unit converted, and are only converted when you export the data from the app itself

torqueLogs are unit converted as they are meant to be user accessible. The files are located in the Documents/torqueLogs folder (ignore any other location, including the previous .torque folder that the app no longer has access to due to google play api changes)

If the files are 0 bytes, then make sure you’re using the latest version of the app, which is only distributed on Google Play.

You can also try deleting the torqueLogs folder in the Documents folder (once you have backed up any data you want to keep) in case the app has been reinstalled (which, due to googles android api changes and new google play requirements forcing developers to use the new (functionally incomplete) api, removes access the app had to the folder)

This should all be working however in the latest app version, so make sure you are up to date

Thanks but I have been using the latest beta versions since Dec 8th and have kept them updated.

I tried deleting the documents/torquelogs and internal storage/ torquelogs folders and logging again.

Torque didnt create a new documents/torquelogs folder at all and the internal storage/torqueLogs folder was created but the logs again have 0 bytes.

I can’t figure out what I am doing wrong.

Hi!

Can you tell me what android device you are using (OS version like android 10, 11, etc) and I’ll try to replicate your issues here – knowing the handset make/model will help a lot with that

As of 1/14 the logs are 0 bytes again in the documents folder.

Hi!

That means at some point you uninstalled Torque (which caused it to lose permissions to the logfile), or put a new logfile there which torque didn’t create – You’ll need to delete the logfile so it can be re-created with the correct permissions for it to append correctly

Or you’re not using the correct version of Torque as it should be unable to create 0 byte files now unless the device has ran out of storage

Edit: Verified as working correctly on several handsets – if the app is uninstalled, permissions are lost as expected and on non-rotated logfiles (appended ones) a tracklog (1).csv is then created as an alternative (which is then appended to correctly). If the app is not reinstalled, then everything works fine on the original logfile

I am not sure what would have changed the permissions as I have not uninstalled the app or ran out of space. I deleted the 0 byte log files but they just get recreated as 0 byte files the next time I load torque.

Can you confirm the version you’re using (Adapter status screen, near the bottom of that screen)

Also can you tell me what phone, and android version you’re running (again) and I’ll try to setup something similar here

0 byte files shouldn’t be happening with the latest version (1.10.258) unless there is some issue with the item that is being logged or the filesystem itself

Thanks. 1.10.258 and android version 8.0.0

This is with a Samsung Galaxy S7 (SM-G930V). I am using the internal storage not an SD card if that makes a difference.

Hi there,

I have the same issue.

I’ve just installed new/lastest version (first time user), and the files are 0 bytes.

Is there something I can do on my phone to fix this?

Phone model:
Sony Xperia XZ1
Model: G8341 (Build 47.2.A.11.228)
Android 9
SDCard present

Thankyou – can you tell me what PIDs you are logging in the settings (it may be related)

Also, there is a duplicate of the torqueLogs folders on the internal storage: /sdcard/Android/data/org.prowl.torque/files/torqueLogs – are the files in there 0 bytes as well?

I think I have managed to reproduce this – can you confirm if you have ‘synchronous logging’ turned on in the settings (when the 0 byte files were being logged)?

Turning the synchronous logging off will fix your issue, although the files will be 0 bytes if you have not connected to the vehicle ECU (as it waits for the ECU connection before writing data to the logfile) – this is intentional and means for those logging sessions that the app was not connected to the ECU.
