The program connects to my elm 327 usb adapter, bat cant show any information about it in preferens of adapter. And also cant connect to the cars ecu. Do your program support this type of adapters? If so, explain please how to use your program with it.

Hi!

Do the following:

Start torque, go into the OBD2 settings, change the connection type from Bluetooth to Wired(USB)

Then scroll to the bottom of the screen, click ‘choose USB device’ and select the adapter (there should only be one) in the pop-up.

Then come out of the settings back to the main screen and quit the app.

Unplug the USB adapter, then re-plug it in. The app should start (or your tablet should ask you to start the app). Then it should connect to the adapter and you should be up and running!

DZ I have the ELM 327 and it works, you will see many other who use it because it is cheap.

piemmm,

My question to you is can the adapter make a difference for multi ECU support? I need Transmission info on my 06 Nissan titan and I see nothing about transmission in the list to add a dial. I just bought the Pro version and I’m running an Asus Transformer Android tablet with the latest version of Honeycomb.

Do I need a better adapter?

Thanks,

~TC

Hi

No, from that perspective the adapters are the same, unless you have something like an ELM323 (not a 327) clone, which supports less protocols.

The main difference between the adapters is speed, of which(now it’s announced) the OBDLink MX is now the fastest. The MX can also talk to different systems in the vehicle, but that’s new functionality that is yet to be taken advantage of. For transmission reading, any of the adapters will be capable of it, it’s just a case of getting hold of the PID information

Thanks for the info, I’ve been on a PID hunt for the last hour while the TorqueScan has been running. It must be extended PIDS because I’ve used one of those WinCE scanners and it found everything, tranny temps included.

When I check the adapter status it tells me that my vehicle does not have multiple ECU’s. Is that accurate?

Thanks,

Ian, thank your for the answer. I make everything what you wrote, now i find adapter in the program, but still cant connect it with a car ecu. Also program dont show manufacture and firmware number of the adapter. Maybe i use wrong lib modules on my tablet acer iconia a500. write please what firmware you use on you motorola xoom, or if you can, send me your modules and information about you kernel. Thanks.

It’s android 3.1 which support the USB API. If it was incorrect libs then you would get a segfault and/or linking errors popping up in the debug.

What adapter type is it, do you have links?

It should be either a generic serial USB device or an FTDI chip (both of which work with the app). Initial setup depends heavily on following the instructions in the previous post in the proper sequence. If you haven’t restarted torque after setting the adapter up, then it won’t connect

Hi!

When the OBD adapter is plugged into the tablet, it should pop up a box asking if you want to start torque. Is it doing this? If you start torque before the adapter is connected, it may not see it.

Once the app has started, go into the settings->OBD2 settings, and make sure you have USB enabled, then scroll to the bottom and select the USB device to use. This only needs to be done once ever.

After that, quit the app, and unplug the cable. Then, every time you plug the USB adapter in, the app should start and immediately connect to it

How are you plugging the adapter into the tablet – what type of USB Host cable do you have (do you have the correct USB Host cable for your tablet as there are a couple of different types)?

Yes, I see a pop up box every time when I connect adapter with a tablet.
I set in the options of connection – USB connection. After that I exit the program and reconnect the adapter.
I do not need to use any USB to USB adapters, because my tablet have a full size USB host port.

That’s good as FTDI devices are supported

Do the lights flash on the adapter when torque is running? They should flash periodically

Flash yellow lites only two times after every connection. When i connect adapter with the windows noutbook to the car, flashing all lamps and all time still it is connected.

Ah, got it (I think), this might be a baud rate issue (believe it or not, the FTDI chips still have a baud rate)

By default, torque talks to the adapter at 115.2K(8N1) however if the adapter isn’t set to that baud rate, then it won’t understand what’s being sent.

The adapter will need to be configured for 115.2K baud (It’s likely configured at a slower rate at the moment). At this instance torque doesn’t try to change the baud rate of the adapter (though this facility will make it into the next update) – if you set the adapter to 115.2K in its permanent memory then it should then function (this is one thing that has slipped my mind for some of the USB adapters that I will fix)

The flashing yellow lights signify the app has found the adapter and is trying to talk to it (but at the wrong baud rate). The red light should flash in reply when things start talking at the right rates (and it should flash a lot more!)

Hi

Yes I will be working on it this week for you. It’s possible if you know how to set the programmable parameters on the adapter (the laptop software you have *might* allow you to do this. You will need to set the ‘Baud rate’ to 115200)

I think, that change adapters chip baudrate impossible using any software. Only hardware way (change some details ) or reflashing controller. May be i am wrong.

Here i found about baudrate:
Interface specifications: ELM327 V1.3 and FTDI USB to Serial chipset Connects to your PC’s USB port Baud rate: 38400 8-N-1

Yup, that’ll be why.

I’ll get the baud rate option into the next update for you – should be middle to late next week before I can get that fully tested

Will there be any speed improvement when i use a china elm327 USB device instead of a bluetooth clone?
