Hi!

I’ve been watching this thread and looking at all your reported issues…

There’s now a new update out (1.6.28) on Google Play of the track recorder plugin – it should be visible in the next 10 minutes (after passing googles internal checks) and contains fixes for things mentioned in this thread (thanks for the feedback!)

You may need to reboot your phone to get the market app to see the update (the reboot clears the markets ‘cache’ of that applications ‘state’)

Hopefully this one will work a little better! (Video recording is a bit fiddly in android,… well most OSs as there are different bugs on different manufacturers handsets which can be a bit difficult to work around sometimes! :-))

The desktop Encoder is next on my list to update (unfortunately direct encoding can’t be done on android… yet, as the OS API isn’t flexible enough). It’s taking longer than I expected (recompiling xuggler for OS X,Windows and linux without H264 support is also proving to be fiddly, and I’m not an expert in C :-))

Sorry Ian,

New TR doesn’t work, closes with FC.

When starting Recording (Galaxy S2 (4.01), High Quality, external Class 10 SD Card) the Screen freeze.

Deleting trackrecorder Directory (include .dat) doesn’t change anything.

My issues:

Layout is better. Buttons could be bigger though.
1.Data and video are not in sync. Data (speed) is about 2s delayed. (fixed by repairing)
2.When playing videos map is visible even though not checked
3.if my screen turns off recording stops (why?)

Galaxy s2, android 4.04

Torque issues
1. Crashes every time i open program (bluetooth share has stopped…)

Somehow I can´t export any videos with the exporter tool.

I did the following:

– Installed Java
– Installed Xuggler
– Restart PC
– Activate WiFi Sync
– Open the encoding tool (Windows 7 / with Admin rights!)

The Tool searches for my Phone, finds it and says something like “synchronising xxx MB”.

After the sync process there are no Videos to encode in the Tool. Anything I can do??

Thanks.

Solved the Problem!

I first thought its a problem with Windows 7 and so used my laptop with Windows XP. I had to deactivate the anti virus programm so the Encoder would find my Phone.

That actually didn´t solve my Problem. Still no Videos in the list! The actual Problem was, that I installed a new Version of Torque on my phone but copied the old “torqueRecorder” folder back so I wouldn´t lose my Videos.

What I did to Encode the old Videos anyway:

– Deleted the whole “torqueRecorder” folder. (Do a backup before!!)
– Recorded a short video with Torque Recorder so the app will create the folder and all Files needed.
– Copy the old backed up files (pidlog.csv , video.mp4 , video.srt ) from the old folder to the new one created by Torque Recorder. In my case the Folder name was “1346246059265”.
Keep the file “dashboard.dat” in that folder, and also keep the “trackrecorder.dat” file in the root Directory!!

– Open the Encoder and Encode your videos.

If you have more than one old Video to Encode, you DONT have to Record more than one useless Video. Just duplicate the folder with the long number, and change one of the numbers to one you like and proceed with the steps from before.

There might be an more easy solution, but for me this one worked out perfectly.

I just purchased Torque a couple days ago after finding that ALapRecorder would not autofocus on my new Droid 4. Am I reading this correctly that the inability to record in high-def is something new to the latest version? After some tweaking (this has a bit of a learning curve, coming from ALR), I am getting satisfactory results, except that the video is low-resolution. “High, medium, low” are not really acceptable choices for video quality – I want to know actual resolutions, and it sounds like the last version gave you more options?

Is there any way to get the previous version, and will this be restored in a future update? I’ve got my first real track day coming up soon and would really prefer higher-resolution video.

Thanks!

Track Recorder is not working for me. I get an error saying “Unable to start (Possible camera quality setting not supported):start failed”. See screenshot below.

I have tried all the different quality settings.

I have a GSII (International model) running Cyanogen Mod 9 (Jellybean).

Anyone know how to make it work?

Urgent erase the leaked JB. Trust me, Trackrecorder will work. Why should you install the wrong shitt? Why can you not wait for the final version? With the leaked version I have the same camera error (And much more).
Cyanogen Mod 9? I think Cyanogen Mod 10. 9 is equal to ICS.

yes, on GS2 of a friend the recorder works with official ICS and CM9 (ICS mod), instead with CM10 (Jelly bean) does not works.

In any case with the latest release of track recorder (1.6.28) for me HD recording (720p) is not possible, for the moment I’m using old version (that for me it’s ok).

Hi.

Just to add to other comments about HD recording. 720p is now no longer available on my Desire HD. It was ok on 24 August (last time I recorded a 720p vid). ‘High’ is the best the app will do now, and the quality isn’t great.

If you could restore the ability to record 720p, that would be great, thanks.

My mistake. I am running CM9 which is ICS, not Jellybean.

Hello,

I’ve got a Samsung galaxy S2 with ICS 4.0.3 and the latest version of torque and track recorder.
I am facing a problem : When I click on the button “Not recording” to start a recording, the video freezes. The green lights of the differente gauges continue to blink and the button “Not recording” move to “Starting…”. Some seconds later it moves to “Recording” but the picture is still freezed.
I can stop the recording and at the end I can see that no file has been recorded.

It worked well some weeks ago when I tried it the first time.

Could you help me ?

Thanks,

HI there,

Firstly, thanks for a great app in Torque Pro, and a great plugin in Track Recorder…

Now, onto my question… Has anyone managed to get Track Recorder recording in the background?

As I was testing on the way home, and the recording got interrupted by an incoming phone call…

Any ideas?

Phone is a HTC Sensation, running stock ICS ROM.

Cheers in advance.

Regards
Gavin

Great program! Full time auto mech and this is faster and easier than my 4k scanner…

Been fiddling with all the options and have found some strange results in trackrecorder. At the beginning and the end of the video the dials seem pretty on par being synced to video, but in the middle of a 10+ min video they seem to be 10-15seconds ahead of the video. If it were lagging Id suspect link/ecm lag but that isnt the case. When you begin the record, all the dials slowly click up into their intended position from zero (over a couple second time) and seem a little slow to respond (not link lag, like theres too much needle lag. But the needle lag is a minor detail, the sync issue however is the real issue. Could this just be a matter of the phone buffering and dropping frames, or an encoder issue? **(EDIT) Just replayed the recording on the phone through track recorder and noticed the dials are off identically to the encoded video.** Too bad key frames cant be matched/inserted with the dial logs. Iv also found the map to be completely inop. It will load the first frame of where you started, and never updates. GPS fix confirmed with high accuracy. Map is fixed position on the phone and the encoded video. **(EDIT) I also just noticed if you look at map view, the gps log works all the way till you hit record, then the rest of the track is missing.** If you need an example of a video or such just ask and Ill make it available.

I keep hearing about an old usb transfer version of sync, hope that comes back. I have only gotten the wifi transfer to complete a couple times, usually resorting to manually transferring the recording folder to the pc, as the wifi transfer will just hang 20-30mb in.

Love the app, and what a price. Less than 30$ and I only pull out the big scanner for enhanced obd needs now. Got a donate button anywhere? Thank you for your efforts!

I recorded a video today using a Galaxy Nexus phone of my Honda S2000 in the mountains on some very twisty roads. The gauge readings simply were not synced correctly. I know the S2000 handles well, but there is no way I was taking those horseshoe turns at 60 mph. :)

Smartphone video cameras don’t encode at a strict, fixed frame rate, the instantaneous frame rate tends to vary depending on image complexity and motion in the video. Of course, there is a lot of motion filming a video out the front window of a moving car and that taxes the phone’s h.264 encoder.

Since Torque can’t encode the gauges into the video in real time, there has to be some better way to sync the gauges to the variable frame rate video after the fact.

Otherwise, Torque is absolutely my favorite smartphone application.

Hi!

Thanks for the feedback! – I’m looking into the syncing issue on the note (and a couple of other devices). I can’t reproduce this issue on my Galaxy Note here which is a bit odd, but have just got back from holiday and it’s early hours yet

Syncing issue is now fixed (and will be available in the next update) – there were 2 separate issues which were causing problems – this is now all sorted out properly

I need to grab hold on an S2 to sort out the issues specific to that device next, then I can send out an update

Hi

New version is now up on the Google Play store (you may need to reboot to clear google play’s ‘cache’ before you see the new version)

Hopefully this will fix quite a few of the reported issues!
