Post intent for sending Torque to sleep mode
on: May 29, 2018 (GMT)

Hello Ian,
I have installed new headunit with Android into my car, and try to set up everything to be run as smooth as possible.
What i have discovered, that after the ignition switches off, the unit switches off display, but remains awake next 5-10 minutes before going to sleep mode. In that case built-in software of this HU checks whether any app takes too much CPU, and if yes – kills that app.
This obviously happens with torque as torque always trying to connect to OBD adapter, then to ECU, etc. There is no trigger for sending the torque app to sleep mode, so e.g. Tasker can react on display off event, and send quit intent to torque. But in any case after switching on of headunit i need to start torque again. And then i see first its gauge screen, need to press Home button to see default android launcher, go to music player again etc. As you see, there will be much less problems if the torque would understand intents “Go Sleep” and “Awake”.
Would you be so kind and implement reaction on such intents in Torque? under “sleep” mode i understand the mode i have seen on my old tablet when external power was disconnected – black screen with words “Sleeping…” in the middle.
Thanks in advance.

Hi!

If the app can’t see the adapter then it should go to sleep (so when it’s switched off, it should do so as well,.. unless it’s connected to USB or still powered up in which case it’ll keep asking the ECU if it’s awake)

Out of interest what head unit is it? I’ve recently got a new one here and it has a similarly described sleep/powerdown after X minutes option in the settings. (the headunit you have may send an intent if the power intent isn’t functional, though I’d like to further understand why it’s not working if that’s the case as that would be a bugfix

should it then show black “sleeping” screen? I have changed the (my bluetooth) OBD adapter power to ACC, so it should be not available when ACC is off actually…

I have chinese HU based on Intel SoFIA 3G-R, SoM FYT6021, reseller is Joying. There is possible to root this unit and install Xposed, and there are some Xposed modules there for this kind of HUs. One of it allows to reconfigure what happens on different events. E.g. it can intercept intents ACC_OFF and ACC_ON and allows to send own intents or start any software etc. If you want more info on it – just drop me an email igor.abakumov [aT] gmail [dOt] com
