Where to find vehicle specific sensor list ?

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone knew how to find out what actual sensors were installed in a vehicle.

Expanded out question ... I have a 2000 GMC Jimmy. It does not show all of the information that is available to be shown inside of Torque (transmission temp, fuel level, pressure, etc. etc.). Doing some looking around and asking around, I was told that not all vehicles had all the sensors, some need them some do not, newer ones than others and have more sensors, some are not 'run through' the computer, etc. So I am wondering what is the best / easiest way to determine what sensors are actually being used per vehicle and can be read by Torque.

This would be nice to know so that it can be determined if the vehicle that Torque is being used on, actually has what you think it should. I know for me it would help to determine if the ones I am looking at are physically there or just not being read (or read correctly).
For instance ... My transmission temp is not showing ... does my vehicle computer actually have the capabilities to gather that information ??? Or this, or that, or the other one.

I guess I am trying to find an over-all list of what my vehicle (any vehicle) actually can show me, not just what Torque can show me, they are 2 different things, as it is all limited by the vehicle of course.

If information like this could be located, it may help in adding PIDs and knowing whether or not Torque is working to the full extent that it can, with the vehicle being tested (whether it be my GMC Jimmy, Suzuki Forenza, or any other vehicle).

Now the million dollar question ... How many have you got to work using Torque.

I could see getting a list of what is capable on my vehicles, then work on the ones not in Torque or not working. Your list gives me a good idea of what they were using and a great starting point.

Side thinking, maybe this would be a good subject for another post, that would have any vehicle and their list like this. So then there would possibly be a central list, when this sort of question comes up again.

EDIT
Looking at the list and comparing to my vehicle itself, what I know it has and does not have. There are differences, that is for sure, from one model to another. For instance in the same year, yours is fuel injected (I presume), where mine is Throttle Body Injection (4.3L Vortec). Which will lead to other differences also (this included or excluded).

Yours is a 2000 right? I thought they were sequential central fuel injection(SCFI). I believe you have to find the "Parameter IDs"(PIDs) and manually enter them. I'm new to this also so I'm searching on all the LS1 or F-body forums for more PIDs information for my car. Most of them are GM proprietary and I found where they charge as much as 50,000 Dollars to have access to all them.

Yes, I am sure I will need to manually enter some of them, but since some of the standards did not show, wondered what my vehicle actually had. I have heard the same thing about a few of the manufacturers, with GM the most expensive.

I am sort of looking to do backwards from the norm. Which is have the list and then see what is on vehicle. I would like to know before (or sooner rather than later) what is actually there, before taking the time to try and make something work that will not work, due to no vehicle info about it at all 😉

Am thinking of doing this, since all the searching that I have done so far, has said that this is an "odd ball" compared to the years before and after it, in regards to the computer and OBD. Something about ISO and VPW, which mine is ISO and some before and all after are VPW. Guess I should have gotten the 01 😉 BUT then again you can not trust EVERYTHING you read on the internet 😉 So any info would help 🙂

Next vehicle the wife's 2004 Suzuki Forenza, but that is a future project.

Please ekep us updated on what you find, I've got a 2000 Jimmy as well and I'm thinking about grabbing a BT dongle and Torque to play with.

Yep, sure thing, any info that could help others will definitely be put up here.

I would say go for it and get one any way 😉 I got a "" 30 dollar special"" and Ian's free version of Torque just to try it. Bought the paid version a few days later and may even think about a better OBDII adapter possibly. I am no mechanic, that is for sure (am not afraid either), but I have had the MAF and others come up and it is real handy to see and work with Torque. The only things that do not work that I could see (but may not be on my vehicle) are the 'LIVE' Fuel info (level & pressure) but all others (that I have tried and know exist) work with the default PIDs that are included. How correctly, may be another issue, have not had a good comparison to check them to decently, before questioning them.

A real nice piece of work for a VERY reasonable price. It has come in handy a few times (4 times for sure) with different family members vehicles and of course our own vehicles, and I have only had it for a little over a week now. May not have all the problems worked out on the vehicles, but it definitely helps in the process.

BUT it all comes back to (for me) the meaning of this post, what is actually on the vehicle, to give the info to Torque to display. I would hate to make a big stinking deal about something, just to find out it would never show up 😉
