Unfortunately the DTC's are Diagnostic Trouble Codes, aka things that will make the check engine light come on. PID's are different 🙁

Very cool find !

QUestion though... when trying to enter engine oil temperature, what do I put in the first field, "OBD 2 PID(in hex -eg: "01-0D" for speed)", as I can't find a value that looks like it goes there.

Hope some one can help me, as ive been looking for this for months 🙁

In an effort to localize the information from what has been discussed for VAG cars (Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Skoda, etc.), I have read through the following threads here on the Torque forum. I wanted to add some of my personal experience and research regarding OBD for these cars. It is my hope that this information is beneficial to people with much more coding ability than me.

Torque Forum Threads:
1. No boost Audi A3
2. VAG PID's
3. Audi RS6
4. No boost readings on VW GTI
5. Software for VAG?
6. Oil Temp.PID, VW

VAG cars use proprietary protocols to access their in-depth diagnostics. Depending on the age of the car, they use either KWP 2000 (ISO 14230) or KW1281. This page from Hex-Diagnostics details them. There are a couple of products on the market that provide data from these protocols: Ross-Tech’s VCDS (VAG-COM) & RaceDiagnostic’s Liquid.

According to opendiag.org, “VWs are also supposed to talk ISO 9141-2. The VW protocol uses 9600 bps which is very nice”. I can validate this since my vehicle, a 2001 Volkswagen GTI with the 1.8T engine connects to Torque using an eBay Bluetooth OBD Adapter through the ISO 9141-2 5 baud protocol. I’m hoping this page can help explain how to implement communication with the other protocols.

I only have personal experience with an older version of VAG-COM (v311.2). At that time, the real-time diagnostics displayed in groups of 4. According to their website, new versions of VCDS can individually select up to 12 unique values from 12 different groups. Here is a list of some measuring blocks that are available on an early 2000’s Audi A4 1.8T. Blocks of note (on this particular car) include Block 113 for Boost Pressure, Block 15 & 16 for individual cylinder misfires, and Block 20 for individual cylinder Ignition Angle Timing Retard.
