Hi all i recently updated to the full paid version of torque and the software no longer works? the free version worked ok now i have updated to the full version i do not get readings? well thats not entirely true i do get data but its all screwed up? the rev dial just flickers on and off and moves erratically and the green connection LED does not stay solid green it just flashes slowly?

can any one help?

i am about to pull the log files and send them to the dev's for investigation?

if this helps i have tried my bt adaptor in another car using the free version of torque and all was fine? in all cases the software has been installed on a htc desire with no prior problems other than slow connection ( the green LED indicator flashes instead of staying solidly connected?)

also in the paid version i am getting PSI data into torque where i do not in the free version? but more confusing is i am running an NA engine with no turbo so i should not be getting PSI readings?

my car is a UK spec civic type r....

the logs will be sent in the next 15 mins devs, i will annotate the logs so you can relate them to this post...

thanks again for a great app and i hope the issues i am experiencing can be resolved.....

edit - this paid version is also causing the phone to reboot all the time?

cheers.....

Hi there (and it's dev, not devs ;-D)

Thankyou for the logs, got them ok. I'll do my best to answer the several issues you have!:

The reboot issue is a known problem, unfortunately it's not with Torque, but a problem with the android operating system itself - there are a few bugs logged about it on:

http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=4218
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=4978&q=bluetooth%20crash&colspec=ID%20Type%20Status%20Owner%20Summary%20Stars#c49

I do know that google have worked on the bluetooth stack since your version, and on at least android 2.2 it appears to be greatly improved, so hopefully you will get a ROM update as people move to Android 2.2

You have PSI readings because you have a Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor and not a Mass Airflow sensor, or at least your ECU is reporting that you have a MAP sensor and no MAF sensor(seen from the logfile). In a NA engine I would expect the MAP sensor to be located on the engine side of the throttle body - so you would usually see a -ve PSI reading at idle, approaching 0 at full throttle, and it should never go +ve (unless you have a turbo!)

Your other problem with Torque not working is a bit puzzling, the debug file you sent shows that it managed to connect successfully to the ECU (through the adapter) and was able to read some values, but there were a lot of PIDs that were not able to be read, as you will see by the 'NO DATA' part of the log file...

The only supported sensors (from the debug) I could see were:

Intake manifold absolute pressure(absolute)
Engine RPM
Vehicle speed
MAP
Throttle position

There have been other civic users which have been using Torque fine, what year/shape(cat ears?) is your car? This will help me see if I have missed something

Generally the free and paid versions are the same - the only difference at the moment is that the paid version currently supports HP and Torque instantaneous readings and the free version does not, the comms routines should be identical in both.

Could you send a debug from the free version which you say is working? I can then compare the logfiles to see what is going on. Don't forget to make sure your ignition is 'on' for at least 3 seconds before Torque tries to connect

Regards

Ian

HI there Ian and thankyou for the speedy reply and for answering some of my questions... the point you make about the map sensor is absolutly correct and i was been dumb lol

of course i will send you the logs from the free version of the app i will do this tmoz afternoon (GMT) if it helps i did send you some debugs 2 weeks ago with a small annotation at the top of the email stating it was from a working HTC desire i dont know if you still have them? infact i think i may still have them i will forward them onto you again....

with both the free version and the paid version the green LED indicator never stayed illuminated it just flashed i have tried this in another car and it stays soild green the whole time and works much better?

my car is a 2005 Honda Civic Type R UK Spec standard ECU its similar to the Civic SI you have in the States.

thankyou for you hard work and help

cheers.....

well just my two cents real quick.....
As an fyi in my 02 civic si the green light on the dials flashes slowly
Like on and off..i just figured that when it comes on that it's pulling the data.. I'll try this on another car (ford focus) to see how the lights in there dials react

Cheers mate I have tried it on a mitubishi (spelling I no lol) colt czt and the green light is on full all the time and the response is almost instant with no lag or data loss its really good!

Ian could the Honda's ecu be slow or could you change something to improve the response?

From what I can see from the debugs, both versions are working as intended when they are retrieving data from the ECU.

The slow flashing just means you have a slow ECU, there is nothing I can do for you here it is just the way things are as some ECUs only provide data at a slow rate.

I am seeing a few '?'s appear in the debug file (meaning there was some data corruption somewhere) - this is usually the sign of a cheap OBD adapter, you can expect the occasional 'pause' of the dials due to this as things timeout and are re-sent.

Don't forget your vehicle only supports about 5 sensors according to the ECU, so your dial choice is somewhat limited, and from the speed of responses from your ECU, they will be a bit slow (your ECU seems to be capable of about 3 PIDs/second scan rate)

Cheers for chat Ian I thought the ecu maybe slow do you know why the rpm dial is flashing on and off on the paid version and not the free one? I see another user on here us having the same issue?

Once again thanks for all your hard work keep it up buddy....

just read thread and interested in topic, may i share some test idea.
free version and paid version difference are measurement of torque, hp and advertise admob. is there anything slow down the calculation/communication ?
can you try another android or on/off 3g APN?

I've tried both versions on another car and the paid version does not work well either? Rpm flashes constantly so is unreadable and case the phone to reboot I only say it is causing the reboot because in the month I used the free version it did not reboot once I have been using the free version today and it has not reported once? Started the paid version and it reported??? Very odd?.....

So atm I can only use the free version the paid one is not readable with the rpm flicker and as said seems to reboot the phone? Free version 1.15 however is working flawlessly?

Any ideas ian, guys?

Cheers......
