Hi,
So I have a Ross-Tech HEX+CAN cable that works with VCDS, but after an initial play with Torque Pro, it doesn't seem to want to work.
Car is a VW 2011/56 Golf
Originally I tried it with my Galaxy Nexus (having already set Torque to USB with no cable attached), and I get the pop up saying "Open Torque when this USB device is connected?". Browsing the forums earlier suggested that if this message came up, the cable should be supported.
Under Settings -> ODB2 Adapter Settings -> Select USB device, it then shows up as "No devices connected", and the adapter status plugin shows things as not connected.
In the notification area I have "Torque is idle. Waiting for USB ODB adapter :35000,logg.."
Should the adapter be useable?
Can anyone suggest what I should try from here?
Samsung Galaxy Nexus w/ 4.1.1
Motorola Xoom w/ 4.1.1

Hi!
Torque only currently supports ELM327 based USB adapters - the ross-tech one isn't ELM327 adapter, but more of a 'passthrough' adapter with no real logic on it. I don't support this adapter at the moment (it's not an OBD2 adapter)
The ELM327 adapters have some onboard logic/processing functions which is what Torque makes use of. You will need a USB version of these adapters (though, I'd recommend a bluetooth one so you don't have wires)
I have a blue 409.1 cable here that I've been playing with trying to add support for VW's proprietary protocol using it, however another adapter, a 'WBH-BT4' can also talk VW's protocols and I've recently added support for this in the app. When i have more time I may do some more work on the 409.1 cable to get the app to support it (though I have Nissan Consult next on my list)

Good to know re the Ross-Tech adapter. Somewhat annoying I can't use it for this aswell, but oh well, that's life! I'd be interested in helping you test/develop support for that in the future if you wanted (I'm a developer by trade, just don't do much Android/Java) - if it was "worth the effort"; seems there may be a userbase for it, or at least support of other VW functionality.
I'm over in the states in a few weeks for Work, so I'll pick up a bluetooth adapter from Amazon and save myself a bit.
What would be recommended? The PLX Kiwi Bluetooth one gets a reasonable review on Amazon US. Though from your wiki page, the OBDLink MX Scan Tool seems to get a good recommendation.

What would be recommended to buy bluetooth adapter wise? Is it worth just shelling out for the OBDLink MX?

I would like to get a bump on this as well. I don't get very good data from the OBDII on my 2006 Jetta TDI 1.9BRM. Would help test if needed. I wanted the ability to use the ross tech software but have an Android 4.1 headunit with USB Inputs onboard, would be nice to always have the ross tech cable in and be able to just switch between VCDS and normal driving with Torque with access to more data at faster speeds.

£5 on ebay for a ELM327 cable will solve your problem.
