PID's sometimes hit-and-miss

Hey guys (and Ian of course)

Yesterday was a great day: I went for a drive, started up Torque as normal, and noticed that saw that my KM/L (aka MPG) started working!

Ive noticed that with some PID's they will sometimes just work or not work at all (will just show a - ).

Does this have to do with the start-up sequence of the ECU, BT Connection and App?

In other words, to make sure all PID's work all the time, is there a specific starting order needed :

Turn key to the 'on' position

Load app

Let it scan

Turn car on (running)

etc etc?

Hope some one can clarify this for me:)

Other than that, I am really enjoying this app, and plan on letting 2 of my car clubs know about this (I am sure they will want it!)

Best wishes,

Rin

Hi there

Are you using one of the cheap ebay adapters? - Could you send me a 'comms debug log' from Torque after it's been connected and reading (some) PIDs for a good 10 seconds, I'll have a look and let you know what is happening - dont forget to write what it's about in the first line so I know who the debug is from in the email 🙂

If you have a cheapy ebay adapter, then you might be unlucky and have one that has timing issues 🙁 - the comms debug log should help confirm this.

That sounds like timing issues with the adapter

Usually with the ebay adapters which are faulty, Torque will ask for a PID, and the adapter won't recieve that correctly and respond with a '?' or just pause.

It's not something that can be fixed in software (it is handled as best as possible though). The adapter hardware is at fault and you should try to get a refund from the place you bought it from.

If you know a little about the hardware, it might be possible to fix manually. I've not taken one apart here, but I think it is closely related to how the clock on the hardware is generated/controlled.

ah yea, thanks.. it seems that other quality issues have arisen as well, recently.

Ill save up and maybe for xmas get the real-deal;)

One final question (or maybe i have to create another topic about this but...) where can I find the codes(PID's) for certain parameters?

I'd like to request the app show current Oil Temp (something I know the ECU displays, as the motor and ECU can show this on the dash normally), but am not sure where to find the PID code.

Best wishes!
