What is/are the difference(s) between pending, current and historic fault logs?

On my 2004 Ford 6.0L diesel, the "pending codes" are codes that have not reached the parameters to set the "check engine light"
I had one for a "fan speed" issue.
It is nice to see that the Torque APP will read those codes. Gives you a heads up earlier for an issue.
