Operating Temperature Notification

Hi, Love the App just one quick question at this time.

I have the "Notify on operating temperature" alarm set to on and have noticed that it does work and notifies me every day.

My question is how does it know what the proper operating temperature is to notify on. Is that something the ECU send out or is it a set temperature?

The reason I ask is that it notifies me at 188 degrees F. This is not fully warmed up and is rather low compared to the true running temperature of my 2008 MINI Cooper. The proper operating temperature is around 220 degrees F. It seems strange to me that it would notify at such a low temp.

Any help or answer would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

Generally, engine coolant temperatures should be at (around) 86C where the thermostat is set, the low 'safe' temperature (that you can 'boot it') at is approximately 80C as this allows for the engine oil to heat up to near enough correct viscosity

104C(220F) is okay (do you live in a hot country?). Most (well, practically all) vehicles use a sealed coolant system that allows for higher temperatures without the coolant boiling at this temperature. In the UK, every vehicle I've tried (even my thirsty V6 Alfa) was set to 86C

As I stated in my first post I drive a 2008 MINI Cooper Clubman. All MINI's 2007 and above have a thermostat set at 220F (104 C). Actually it not even really a thermostat as you would find in many older vehicles. It is a 7 port heart looking device that regulate where the water goes, radiator, engine, heater core, and overflow bottle.

In Massachusetts USA where I live the outside temps are 20-40F (-6 to 4 C)

Also here is a direct quote from the owners manual:

"Drive Off Immediately. Do not wait for the engine to warm up while the vehicle remains stationary. Start driving right away, but at moderate engine speeds. This is the fastest way for the cold engine to reach it operating temperature."

The manual does not state what the actual set temperature is but from all reading from many people and the dealer the set temp is 220F (104 C) but can change depending on the ECU. The ECU can change the coolant temp down to 180F (82 C) or up to 235F (112 C). It all has to do with emissions output.

So I am guessing what you are saying is that the "Engine at operating temperature" is a set point and is not a notification from the ECU.

Thanks

Eric

Hello! Where in the settings I can change the voice message on the achievement of the motor operating temperature from 70 degrees Celsius to a different value?
Thank you.
Maksim
