Hi.
I have a tablet running Android 4, my car is a Rover 75 1.8 52 reg'd.
I have bought two ODB devices and have the same problem with both.
I am not getting any coolant temperature data.
In fact I get a reading of -40
I have tried many many times and although the connection to the ECU is always established without a problem I have only once been able to get coolant temp data.
Any ideas please as the coolant data is to me the most important.
I have been playing with the settings so I deleted the app and re-installed, still no coolant temp 🙁
download the free Torque Scan app and run it to see if coolant temp is available in the list of sensors
Thanks Simon, I'll try that, other's with same vehicle don't have my problem.
Hi!
You may have an issue with the OBD2 adapter - if you have been connected for a while, check (in the Adapter Status) screen that the 'Error Count' is 0 - if it's not 0, then it indicates the adapter isn't doing what it should when requested (and this can cause all kinds of strange issues
The reason I mention this is because you say that it has worked - if it works once, it should work all the time
You can see if the vehicle supports the coolant temperature in the list of available sensors that the ECU says it supports (in the Adapter Status screen near the bottom)
I have two OBD2 adapter's, both give same result.
I have just checked the available sensors and the coolant is not listed, a bit odd as other owners do not have this problem.
I will post on the Rover forum for advice.
Thanks.
Pete.
ok, let me know what you find - usually if it's not listed in the list of available sensors then it means it's not supported by the ECU that responded to the adapter - out of interest, are you using the lite or pro version?

OK, I am using the pro version.
Tried on a 2000 Picasso 1.8 petrol, even less data
I need to find somebody with a Android tablet or phone.
I guess it is possible I have two OBDII faulty adaptors.
I have found somebody with an Android phone, but, he does not have wifi or internet capability.
Anybody know if it's possible to transfer the app from a tablet to a phone using Bluetooth ?
"I have a tablet running Android 4" ... if you already have an android device why do you need a phone to run Torque?
The lack of sensors will not be due to the Android device. ECUs from the same vehicle manufacturer may have different hardware, firmware and/or software even within the same model/year
Have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On-board_diagnostics for more info on OBD2
Does the vehicle have a temp gauge? What protocol does it show in "adapter status"? I am just curious more than anything else given that I think BMW had Rover at some stage
Hi Simon.
Adaptor version ELM27 v1.5
0 error 0 fault
Protocol ISO9141 - 25 baud
What puzzles me is that on two occasions I have had coolant temp displayed.
Something I have just noticed is that the temp gauge shows zero (no data) until the ECU connects then goes to -40.
The car does have a temp gauge and the sender is working fine.
The Torque app is becoming popular with the Rover75andZT club, I seem to be the only person having this problem.
Yes Rover was owned by BMW for a time, my vehicle was built at longbridge.
-40 is the minimum value for the engine coolant temperature according to wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OBD-II_PIDs
could it be possible that you have a faulty sensor/wiring ... the gauge on the dash may not use the same sensor if it is working ok (just guessing here) but I would expect some issues if the ECU is working on a coolant temp of -40
have you had a proper diagnostic service done by a dealer workshop
I am returning to the UK next month for a couple of weeks, I will try and get a T4 diagnostics done then.
Thanks Simon.
Pete.
