Why do I get this every couple of weeks? Annoyingly it always happens when away from home. I don't use 3G internet on my phone as I refuse to pay virgin their extortionate rates, so instead use wifi only. However, I don't have wifi access when driving home.
Anyway, why do I need to keep verifying my licence? I update when a new version is available, I connect to google play several times a week, but I don't understand why it is necessary anyway, I'm still using the same phone and the same account. I'm just worried that one day when I need Torque in an emergency that I won't be able to connect cos it wants to verify my licence.
Is there something I can do to stop these frequent checks?
Hi!
The app tries to update the cached license every start up, if it can't it will use the cached version for up to 2 weeks without a data connection before requiring the license to be verified - this is a very relaxed check compared to the majority of other apps available on Google Play.
If you have wifi enabled then the app will keep the license up to date when it is able to connect to googles servers(when the app is started). A data connection is listed in the app permissions as is the license check listed on the google app store
Thats fine, atleast I know how it runs now, so I will just make sure I fire it up once a week whilst at home.
Thanks
It would be nice it it would tell you this at startup.... this is the second time I've wasted a day of testing because it startus up and then after a few min it stops logging data. If it reminded me when I started I could have gone inside and used wifi to verify the license.

I'm sure this has come up many times before, but I too have the same problem as I have no internet on my on Garminfone that I use for this app (which I love on my Prius). So if I start the app somewhere that has wifi service at least once every 2 weeks (even if it does not connect to vehicle ECU) it will not leave me unable to use the application for which I have paid? Does the free version require the biweekly re-verification?
I do find that frustrating and fail to see the need for it. I don't mind an agreement to check in with your servers, but leaving me unable to use the app without warning after I've paid for it does not seem consistent with what I agreed to. How about a couple days (or better weeks checking in only once every few months) notice that I must do a check-in before the app just becomes unusable
By the way, what port is used for the check-in as several of the public WIFI systems I use block many non port 80 connections
