The free Google Maps Navigation with Voice is only officially available in select countries. However the good folks at xda have managed to modify the navigation apk to work in any country. I have been using the navigation app with my SG Tab 7 Plus for a while now and it works wonders. Here is the xda thread with the relevant apks for anyone interested http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1429126

The purpose of this thread is to request Ian to see whether its possible to integrate Google Maps Navigation with Torque. Torque's Map View uses Google Maps thus I am hoping it will not be too much to ask for the Google Maps Navigation to be integrated with Torque perhaps as an item in the Main menu? This could also possibly take the form of a widget that can be added in the Realtime Information as a full screen display? A plugin perhaps? Ian knows best.... 🙂

Thanking you in advance.

I'm sorry, but it's officially not true. I'm using unmodified Google Nav in New Zealand for almost a year now and never had a problem.

Hi,

Looking forward to use navigation in torque when it is availlable.
A really cool and usable feature in torque.
With navigation supported i have everyting in one app.
Data; navigation; music controll.

Very good job.

Philip

That is my prayer too. But unfortunately Ian has not made any indications whether this feature is even possible.... 🙁

Hi,

I think Ian has lots of things to do on his list.
So lets be patient and it will all come together.

Google doesn't allow 3rd parties to provide that functionality.
From https://developers.google.com/maps/terms

(c) No Navigation, Autonomous Vehicle Control, or Enterprise Applications. You must not use the Service or Content with any products, systems, or applications for or in connection with any of the following:

(i) real time navigation or route guidance, including but not limited to turn-by-turn route guidance that is synchronized to the position of a user's sensor-enabled device.

@sasha you misunderstand our request.

We are only asking for the option to launch Google navigation app from within Torque. So at the end of the day what will be running is Google navigation without any modification whatsoever. The purpose is to be able to launch the app from within Torque without having to leave Torque to the homescreen or app menu. 😉

If your contention was to be followed then even the Map View already available with Torque would have to be removed.... 🙁

Hi,

At this time you only see the map with your position.
It would be nice if ou also could see the route in the screen.
Maps navigation with voice guidance can work in the background.

Gr.

@Pwned-PS3 - yes, I understood as adding navigation into Torque - that's prohibited by Google.

But just using the Maps as it's done currently is allowed and actually encouraged by Google 🙂

As for the actual request 🙂 - it should be quite possible to launch Google Navigation app, passing it the destination point. Of course, Ian would have to provide a method of selecting/entering the destination point inside Torque.
