anybody?

any idea where Torque Pro stores all the settings in android file structure? I just need to pull those files from backup and upload to my phone "drive" to recover everything (I hope) ... I guess ... unless Torque doesn't keep those settings in XML files at all ... then where & how?

Everything is in the ".torque" directory

You need to go to settings in your "my files" program (I use ES File Explorer). Click "show hidden files.

now you are scaring me ... I have "Show hidden files enabled" (always have) and there is no such folder on my backup drive ... damn it ... sounds like that setting got turned off on the Phone's OS folder when I was copying files ... so ... back to square one and manual settings restoration, lovely ...

it seems that setting which screwed me over was "Hide Protected OS files" in Windows, that hid the .torque folder (and all others starting with a dot) ... need to check older backups, maybe it occurred to me once to make a full android file system backup with that setting turned off (or not...)

I'm talking about inside Android. I know on my Samsung Galaxy S4 (4.3), when plugged into the computer, I cannot see any hidden directories within Windows. I've had to access it on the actual phone. On your "my files" program, hit settings, select "show hidden files". Make a copy of the Torque directory and paste somewhere you want to back it up.

You should really consider using a Backup program. it does all of this for you.

Yes, I understand, but as I said, whatever WAS on the phone IS GONE 🙂 I formatted it (reset to factory defaults) and kept only file backup on Windows PC which apparently didn't copy the necessary files, because Windows was set to "hide protected OS files" (in Folder View options) and ones starting with a dot are considered as such even if they do not belong to Windows at all, LOL my fault, now I know 🙂

Setting everything back as it was step by step manually, will now back it ALL up once done, ehhh, my bad it is, I forgot about those dot folders (was messing with them before in past, now I remember) ... and it felt like something was missing when I was making file backup to PC ... now I know exactly what LOL!

I just double checked and yeah, Windows doesn't show those dot folders on my phone even when I toggled Hide Protected OS files to off. ... stupid. My phone is Samsung Galaxy S3 (android 4.3) ... something changed, because I remember seeing those on a PC on former phone (T-mobile G2 with GB android) ... is it Jelly Bean hiding those files from Windows???

Not exactly..... you're incorrect at windows being the reason that the .torque folder was not displayed. It has nothing to do with windows not allowing you to see the files. Android isn't allowing them to be seen through USB.

With Android 4.0 and later, when you plug in the phone, its in MTP mode, and only displays non-hidden files. There's not much you can do about MTP.

What you can do, which is really the best solution, is use a decent backup program on your phone which will zip it all up for you, and backup to a non-hidden folder so you can copy it.

true, I edited my post above in meantime, because I came to the very same conclusion, it's android 4.x hiding those files from Windows (via USB).

will do that through My Files on android later on and then I should be able to copy to PC the copy of it 🙂

do you know if Samsung Kies software can do full backup of android file system to PC, including dot directories?

aastro file manager on android can see the folder (you should be able to manipulate it from there).

I'm considering adding a 'backup' option in the wifi sync app, though I am severely behind in releasing the updated version at the moment (been busy setting up the server to handle some of the encoding part of it)

Yes, Astro can see those files and folders, as well as My Files app (I have it on android 4.3, Samsung Galaxy S3 device), was able to make a copy of it to a new folder I called Backup, then renamed it dropping the dot from a copy of ".torque", this way my PC could see it, so I could make a full backup of all Torque files 🙂

Lesson learned 🙂

Also, yes please add a Backup/Restore feature! that would be awesome and very easy to use with a tap of a button inside Torque Pro 🙂

I really enjoy the new added features in this app that you enabled over time (I'm a long timer here, been a few years), it's still my favorite app for everything OBD2 related 🙂
