Quick question. How is the average MPG calculated? Is that based off info from the ECU, or does the app calculate it using the instant MPG from the ecu? I only ask because I have both the instant MPG and the OBD speed working, but not the average mpg. Thanks!

I have another 2 questions, sorry if it exists in other post,
1. I would like to know how to make the fuel consumption display. I use Honda Civic asian market Y2006, we called Civic FD, I can see many data from OBD but the fuel level and KPL,MPG are not shown.
Do I have to define specified PID, or I have to use difference software version. Or the ECU does not communicate this value to OBD?
2. What difference between torque free version and donate version?

Sorry again. I asked and I found the answer by myself.
In other post, Ian explained already that the paid version have measurement of Torque and HP while free version does not.
And for adding GPL, it is my mistake, after I remove all display/gages and try to add it again when the OBD Bluetooth is connected. I found additional data active (showing by symbol "*" in first character) including KPL,MPG, KPL (average), MPG (average), etc. However, the fuel level still not active.
Refer to answer in other post http://ian-hawkins.com/?page_id=74&wpforumaction=viewtopic&t=68.0 that I can have only 5 sensors on communication because of ECU, I assume that the first time I can't see KPL move because of this limitation.

The trip averages and average versions may be bugged - I happen (due to lpk) to be looking at this section at the moment and have made some changes that should fix this. I just need to test at the moment to see if they are behaving correctly. Thanks for pointing this out!

Today, on the way back home 150 km, I have test the KPL (average) and found strange behavior. I don't know if I should use forum or mail to you.
First, I clear all screen I found something like this.
1) Start with adding the "Trip Distance", it shown with "*", but once I add trip distance, it always show "-", no matter how long I wait, I test "Close & Reopen" program, reset trip counter, "Disable GPS enable GPS" Sometime, etc. but still the same.
2) The "-" changes and continue increase once my Android screen in "Time out", the Torque is in background but it is not always like this, sometime even in Time out but the "Trip Distance" not change.
3) I tested to reset trip distance in my car when screen time out, I drove 8 km and open android, I found 26km in there. Another test I drove 2km, I found 5km in screen. I drove 1km, I found 2km in screen.
I can't find the cause and affect and relation of real distance and distance from android. I don't know it is from my hardware or not.
Can you give me a hint so I can do some other tests. and how to give you the result.
PS: I send you information 4 hrs ago from my android.
Another thing, I seem the KPL display is a little over the real value. I see from graph 15-17 km/h minimum and sometime over 20 km/h but in reality I can expect only maximum 14 km/h from my car.
Looks like trip distance was bugged - that should be fixed now in the version on my phone, it will be released probably on Sunday (i *really* need to complete the readyness readouts first)

Hi, I have a small feedback regarding GPL and Trip distance.
The value of Trip distance is very accurate, it is exactly same as value of Garmin Nuvi 205, test 30km.
However, i have a little problem, I found auto reset. I think it happens when my car stop during traffic jam because I see it back to '0' one time after run for 12km. How can I disable it?
Another one, the appearance has better look. But one disavantage is I can't put graph overlay to compare 2-3 graphs with same time scale. Is it possible to configure somewhere the transparancy.
Okay, I have added a "transparent" theme to the themes list so you can overlay your graphs on top of each other (what a cool idea!)
The trip counter will reset when comms with the ECU is restarted - I should perhaps change this and will have a look for a better solution in a later version

Seem the calculation of KPL or MPG is not accurate. my engine is 2.0 civic, i try putting 2, 3, 3.5 but it still not close to reality. when using 2.0, KPL=20 and when using 3.5, KPL is 19.
Can i do something to make this fixed.

No, my engine is gasoline 2.0 litre Honda civic year 2006.
I set the engine displacement 2.0. Both instant KPL and average KPL show around 20-22 KPL but I manual count and calculate, it should be KPL 13-14.
It seem OK when i test with my colleage car, Honda citi year 2009, I compare the display in Honda Dash and Torque, 12 KPL in Torque versus 11-14 KPL in Honda (bar type display) can't see real value.
Does your calculation have any issue when the engine is i-Vtec Honda, what raw data do you use for the instant and average MPG, KPL calculation. Do GPS signal, Drive cycle, effect to your calculation indrectly?
If possible I would like to see the raw data of your calculation and debug together. I have a long trip every week, that trip I can use cruise control lock the speed to various level and able to find the route to keep constant RPM to get data.
There are small points, don't know if it relate to this issue or not.
- The trip distance auto reset even I drive continuously, I drove 80 km without any stop but the Trip distance is reset to zero one time. Maybe it reset when it loss GPS signal?
- It seems the average KPL,MPG is based on time, it is not base on real distance (trip distance), it is like the moving average number of KPL. Is this correct?
- The reset trip counter, I can't just select reset trip counter to reset all counter, I have to press that menu, exit torque and then reopen Torque again to reset data.

Yeah, I am having the same problem. I have a 1.8L 2007 civic, and the average MPG is not right. My scan gauge reads max around 40 mpg on my way to work but this app said it was around 70 mpg today. I set the engine displacement in the settings correctly as well... Very cool app though other than that...
I have a similar issue on my 2006 toyota tacoma 4.0l v6. It may not be the best test bed since I have added a turbo and upgraded the injectors and fuel pump, I'll have to test this against my mothers stock tacoma,
Torque reads about 27 mpg avg and trip avg, my truck consistently gets about 17-18. The best I ever got even stock was 20-21, Instant mpg's seem to be the most accurate when I'm cruising
Yeah, I notice that average MPG does not go down at all when my car is stopped and idling. That could be one of the issues, I know my scan gauge definitely accounts for idling...
I have a diesel car (206 HDI 1.6 FAP), so I am waiting for a correct formulae to get Litres/Km...
(Looks like latest version 1.4 does not yet have it it).
Would it helps getting a diesel formula if I tried to report a small table with corresponding values from both Torque L/Km (so wrong ones), and my car's computer L/Km values ?
(I would note each values manually once stabilizing a given consumption...)
Or maybe I should note another value(s) than L/Km from Torque (wich is already computed)
note: my car consumption indication has always been off by ~11% (always underestimates by 11%). Tried to ask Peugeot to recalibrat it when I went to maintenance, but it has always been "I do not know, you should have an appointment with the other repair team, we do not deal with that...").
Also I do not know what data is not calibrated ok, so it should or should not be the same difference in Torque's reported value at the end...?
On my gasoline stock Nissan X-Terra 4.0 it also shows 18-20 MPG instead of 15-17... Not very close.
BTW - is it counts average per trip/until reset or for last X km/miles? I know my old Land Rover showed average MPG for last 50 miles.
Good point about VVT on the intake side.
The MAP will read out the pressure in the manifold. But how much air the engine takes out of this depends on the intake valve timing! And Torque doesn't know this and it is not possible to quantize this from the outside even if the value was available. And the timing depends on load, throttle and RPM so it makes little sense to compare consumption figures in different gears at the same speed.
So it would be better to use the MAF (but my car doesn't have one) or injector timing (the pulses also depend on voltage and on slowness of the injectors, and are a non-standard PID I think).
Injector pulses probably need some value subtracted (part of the pulse is eaten by the injector; it doesn't open immediately) and are not calibrated (100 microseconds does not give an indication about fuel amount, only that it is double that of 50 us).
Still, injector values could be used very well in a relative efficiency gauge.
I have Subaru Forester. liters per 100 km shows more or less correct value. Liters per 100 km (average) is very wrong, 2 times too optymistic.
