Hi

Nope, the calculation works for 3 to 16 cylinder vehicles 🙂

There is in the latest version, an improvement to a better calculation that is more accurate - have a look at enabling 'Enhanced MPG calculation' in the OBD2 settings

Piem, awesome to have to around!

lets make a deal! 😀
i'll help you on VW forums to get more androids running Torque, but on the other hand all i ask is to "improve" some things..! 😀

so, i have a 5 cylinder engine, 2.5L with some modifications.
I'm a geek, sort of... and there are few things i enjoy more than hard DATA. so, torque logging is AWESOME for me, and i thank you for such an amazing app. i use it almost everytime i turn the car on.

In fact, i even hardwired the BT obd into the car (easily removable, but prettu much undetectable to passengers.

Anyways, onto the story:

i own a Vag Com cable (ross tech) which i have used on the past to log all the data from the car... but i need to have a laptop with me in order to do so.
TORQUE gave me the opportunity to log with my cel, which is pretty convenient.

but after 4 log days, i have found some fields to be VERY far from the sensors readings, according to vag com.

This fields are:

-Timing: it showed up to 34 degrees, when regular vag com and other logging devices have never read more than 10 degrees

HP: according to this app, the car is only making 120hp, when on the dyno it made ~180 whp... and ~205 crank.

Tq: similarly, it logged a max of 130, and previous loggs with other things have shown up to 180wheel torque and ~200 crank tq

Instant MPG: this is my main concern, simply because this is what i REALLY wanted to be able to log on the phone...
The logged MPG values are REALLY off, it showed about 40mpgs at 90 mph, when "proven" it only does about 22-25 mpg (100% hwy tank, SEVERAL times)

thats pretty much where its off. On all the temps, time recordings, and more its dead acurate.

oh, btw, i had my car weighted with me on it, so the weight portion is very accurate.

😀
i dont want to come across as offensive, because i really LOVE this app... i just "know" that VWs in general are a pain with electronics, so i want to help you in any way i can to make this better for us! 😀

based on other threads, i think this info could be detrimental:

-all the settings have been properly set.

-HTC sensation 4g

-torque (paid app)

-kiwi bt sensor

Hi

To answer in order:

* Timing - this is direct from the ECU - if it's reporting 34 degrees, then that's what the ECU is sending. Be aware that the 'definition' of timing for OBD2 may not be the same as the VAGCOM definition, for that you would need to check the SAE documents.

* HP/Toque - As you have the weight correctly, then make sure you test from a slow rolling start. (don't start at 60mph). The calculation for HP & Torque is very accurate provided you perform the test from a relatively slow rolling start (on a flat road) and don't spin the wheels. As this is also a timing test, the adapter plays a large part in it as do the PID read speeds. If you are logging a lot of information or have many displays on the screen when performing this test then accuracy could suffer, paticularly if your adapter is having problems or is slow.
(* Make sure you enable 'Faster Communication' in the OBD2 settings and / or run the HP/Torque test with just those displays visible and no logging *)

* MPG - Have you got the correct engine displacement and most importantly fuel type selected in the vehicle profile (and then told the app to use that profile). The calculation for MPG should be pretty much spot-on if you have done this. Fuel type is vitally important to set correctly. Again, if you have an adapter with an 'Error Count' greater than 0, then it will affect this test

There is also an option in the OBD2 adapter settings called 'Enhanced MPG calculation'. If you have checked your settings above *first* and it still is not working as you would expect, then enable this option (which uses an alternate calculation for MPG)

There is an adjuster in the vehicle profile for the MPG calculation. Most of the time this should be left at '1'.
