Post How to get Knock Retard & Extended PIDs
on: July 29, 2010 (GMT)

Knock Retard is available through Torque, and a wide range of vehicles appear to support the PIDs related to it.

However you *must* update to the latest version of Torque before doing anything else – this means getting the latest version that is currently available on the Android Market. Torque is only distributed on the Google Android Market.

Once you have upgraded to the latest version, use the menu button and go to Menu->Settings->(Scroll to the bottom)->Manage Extended PIDs.

Then use the menu button to *clear* anything that is present. This is important as the Torques implemented predefined PID lists have all recently changed.

Then Menu->Add predefined set. Be sure to read the dialog fully.

Most vehicles seem to support the GM PID set. You may try this set on any vehicle and it should make available extended PIDs which include Knock Retard, Cylinder misfire history, Injector Duty Cycles, etc.

Hello. Hows about these EOBD PID’s for us Subaru guys?: http://www.romraider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4271

Can I simply plug in the extended PID code like (N/A,1): Knock Sum* -> [APPLICABLE 32-BIT ECUs ONLY] (N/A,1). Or does this need further definition in the torque programing to define the instructions?

Any news on adding Subaru PID’s to the native programing?

PID is Parameter ID. It is a common term when working with telemetry.

I too would like Subaru PIDs…

Just bought myself a wrx… Didn’t have to pay for the boost gauge because i have torque :)

There’s another listing of subaru OBD codes here:

I bought the plx connection, downloaded the newest upgate for torque, cleared and loaded the PIDs for my Grand Prix, created a new display for knock retard. The gauge keeps saying no data. The other gauges seem to be working but not the ones for the PIDs. Boost, speed, temp, all seem to work ok.

Looking to get the extended PID’s for my 06 GTO and Grand Prix is listed but no GTO. Do I select Grand Prix?

Hi,

I am a noob to this forum and do not know how to ask a question, so please forgive me. And, if there is a term I can search on to answer my question, then please let me know. I have done some searches and this thread seems to the closest.

My question is around the extended PIDs. When I go into extended OBD managment I get the warning about how these can muck my truck up and so forth. But, many of the extended (I loaded the standard GM extended PIDs)are only monitoring type PIDS (I was looking specifically for the gear indicator). This is versus the PID for knock retard.

So, my basic question is that does this program only send the PIDs that are selected for display to the vehicle computer?

Another way of asking the question is, if I go into extended OBD management and pull up the GM predefined PIDs, but only select the the gear indicator for display, is the gear indicator PID the only PID sent to the computer? I would not have to worry about the PIDs that actually tell the computer to change something from being sent?

Is my question as clear as mud?

Cheers,
DaveW

I got the full version on my android device. I added the predefined grand prix PID set, but I can’t get any KR readings on my 98 GTP (no data). Any ideas on how to make it work?

The rest of the grand prix specific PIDs don’t seem to be working either, like cyl missfire history, shift times and so on.

The standard set of PIDs seem to be working fine, like engine RPM, timing advance, load, etc.

Also, the first bank, second sensor fuel trim, always displays 99.

Ian, whats it going to take to get the above linked Subaru EOBD PID’s loaded? MANY of us have messed with the custom PID loader in the app and to my knowledge no one has gotten anything to work…. This is frustrating, we all know its right there, just cant make it happen. I made the initial request in Aug as you recomended. If it is possible for us to get these working a primer/tutoral on the process would be EXTREAMLY valuable to a lot of users and prespective users. Whats it going to take e-mail me please.

+1
And up for march.
Really hoping to get Subaru specific PIDs and willing to help input them if needed.
BTW, nice new menu UI.

Unless you have the Subaru specific PID information then any support for this will not be available. Any PID information for specific makes/models of cars is usually not freely available. There is GM/Ford info that may work, and I believe included with Torque, but Subaru/Mazda and most others are not freely available or documented anywhere. Plus the PID information changes from model to model and year to year.

I looked over the links above and they do not contain any PID information. That is why you have all failed to add it to Torque manually as well as why I would suspect its not going to be added to Torque anytime soon.

Just my 2c…

OK I’m new to this, as in “today”. I’ve done engine management work before, so I’m at least familiar with what is going on.

The problem for retrieving more valuable data, from what I can see, is the lack of PIDs for specific ECUs. I think I have this information for many Subaru models, but I want to make sure I’m looking at the right thing.

Can someone confirm / deny that this is a valid PID?

Thanks!
