Ok i just wanted to report that i paid for the torque app and and using the blue Bluetooth adapter from ebay torque will not connect to the ECU on maximas 1996-2001

Ive personally tested on my 97 and 98 and other members of maxima.org have also reported that it DOES NOT work with 4th gen maximas (96-99) as well as early 5th gens (2000-2001).

EDIT: work on 2002 maximas! with the ELM327 adapter!!

I just burned 5 bucks on the torque app and another 35 on the Bluetooth adapter so i thought posting hear would give other people with Nissan Maximas a heads up!

( The Bluetooth adapter works on all other cars ive tried it on but thats just a hand full of cars! )

If there is a fix or a work around im not aware of maybe someone can chime in!?

(by the way if it had worked for my car i would have been more than pleased. Even tho it does not work for me … Good job, nice app)

Do you know if the 96-99 Maximas are OBD2 compliant?

EDIT: Done a little research, it appears that early Maximas are not fully OBD2 compliant:

Specifically these engine families:

SNS3.0VJG1EK
SNS3.0VJG1FK
SNS3.0VJG1EK

Thanks for replying Ian!

EDIT: So its not the Ebay adapters fault.

Its just that 4th gens are not fully compliant with obd-II!!!

Man i wish there was a work around or something?????

OK.
My maxima was made in 1999 and is fully OBDII compliant.
Still, I can’t get any readings besides coolant temp and engine load%.

I have tested the generic bluetooth dongle and my phone (running Android 2.2 Froyo) on my other car and it works fine.

Did little research and here’s what I found:
http://www.plmsdevelopments.com/files/1999_a32_maxima_obd2_registers.pdf

Looks like we have two ports.
1: basic OBDII for fault codes
2: data: 14pin Consult port for streaming all data.

There are many “Consult” readers to buy on Ebay (from 10 bucks for generic that uses rs232 port on your comp. up to 4700 bucks for genuine Nissan scanner). No direct bluetooth adapters what so ever.

Question:

There are cables that convert 14 pin Consult port to 16pin OBD II port.
Do you think this could work?
As far as I understand the pdf file linked above the software needs different commands in order to communicate?

Can I get any input from Developers?

Or I might just give it a try…

Hi

1993 is likely too old to be OBD2 compatible – OBD2 was introduced en-masse for vehicle built after 1996 (it was a legislated requirement for emissions testing in the U.S.)

You will need to find out if your vehicle is OBD2 compliant. If it is, then app will simply work. Nissans ‘Consult’ protocol isn’t part of the OBD2 specification and is a proprietary manufacturer protocol
