Post JDM ECU can only read custom pid but not standard PID
on: June 10, 2014 (GMT)

Car : Nissan 370z 2009 JDM
Live data read tested on : Consult 3 and all JDM portable handheld scanner.

Hi, 2 years ago when i first bought torque and elm 327 v1.5 i was a bit disapointed knowing that my jdm ecu pid is locked. The elm327 only manage to connect to the ecu and torque says that my ecu is locked by the manufacturer, a common practice by japan. All my friends in the states able to enjoy reading all their parameter in their udm car.

Fast forward to yesterday, i gave it another try with the new update with all the plugins available and to my suprise torque are able to read 4 pid which is available on Nissan adv lite. I then go ahead and buy the rest of Nissan Adv and now im able to read 12 specific custom NADV pid available from that plugin.

As a part time programmer, it come to my mind that there’s a slight possibility that Piemm might just stop his program routine to poll all standard PID after seeing the ECU did not return any pid when he poll for it, 0000 request return null?.

QUESTION :
1. How do i confirm the reading of standard mode 1 pid is still not available. Can someone teach me on how to set the standard PID as a custom PID, maybe that way torque somehow bypass its routine and force it to read instead of assuming that it cant read after 0000 return null.
2. Can someone reach out to the maker of Nissan Adv, theres a PID list specific to 370z in the370z.com forum.

Reference :
1. http://www.the370z.com/audio-video/89695-370z-can-bus-proprietary-pids.html

2. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/lv?key=0AnNSKKWgqclKdGhzNDNzUnV4bWctSHhrdjJacUhhR3c&usp=sharing

My aim is to be able read the standard PID which im not being able to read now, pretty sure theres a way since i can read the custom Nissan adv pid. Scanning with Nissan adv gave me 30 pids so i knew theres more to it.

cheers, let me know how i can help.

try the torque scan plug in

you see pid adress and response value way you use it

and it seem’s to poll the adress even if the pcm say’s it doesn’t support it

if you want to try custom pid

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OBD-II_PIDs

here are some info

how to put it in torque

if you want rpm

first line you put 010C

01 for mod 1 and 0C for rpm

and just do a test to see if you have a response

normally you should have a 410CXXXXXX or something…

the value will be wrong since you didn’t enter a math formula but you will be able to see if the pcm is responding

Maybe your vehicle requires a custom
init string…

http://torque-bhp.com/wiki/Custom_Init

Its likely your plugin is reading by physical
addressing (memory) whereas Torque
typically uses modes: 01 (generic), 21 (by offset)
and 22 (by id) addressing.

Gents, thanks for the help. I’ve tried setting custom pid for the standard mode 1 pid, when testing it return no data. I wanted to try the physical address style but i dont know what is the address for it. Can someone clarify more on this physical address? For example what is the physical address for pid rpm 010C. I can do a quick check.

I’ve tried all custom init, cant even get to connect to ecu.
