Hey guys

Quick question but i think I already know the answer

Has anyone had any luck with using this via usb?

I have an ecutalk display (http://www.ecutalk.com) which has a usb output

I also have an A500 tablet with a full size usb port on it

Does torque support usb input?

Thanks, Tom

Hi

Consult support will /not/ work with a normal ELM327 adapter – you must have either an RS232 or the track electronics adapter for it to work

Also, you will need to manually select the ‘Nissan Consult’ protocol from the list of protocols in the vehicle profile – non-OBD2 protocols (like consult) need to be manually selected

So has anyone tried the Nissan Consult protocol? I have a 2003 Maxima and would be curious to see/hear about your experiences. What kind of information does the Consult provide that goes above and beyond the OBDII protocol?

Thanks

The Nissan Consult protocol referred to here is not an extension to OBD2, it’s completely separate and incompatible.

I think a 2003 Maxima would support Consult II, which is OBD2 compliant.

Not sure what you guys are talking about. I works on my Nissan Maxima 1997. elm327 plugs in to obd and works fine.

The TrackElectronics ConsultBT work in a Nissan Patrol with RD28Ti engine, from 1998?

They sell to europe or they have a reseller in europe?

Thanks, I have an elm327 but the torque pro documentation says Consult will not work with an elm327 so I never tried. Will give it a shot this evening.

Hi!

Consult needs the track electronics adapter (consult uses a phyically different plug to OBD2 – they literally won’t fit in each others sockets)

How about a 300ZX? Will the adapter work with both pre-OBD|| (’90-’95) and OBD|| (’96 – last year sold in the US)?

Currently, the updates Torque gets from my ’96 are about once a second (using the ScanTools adapter).

Thanks,

The easiest way to determine which hardware you need is to check the diagnostic port.

If it looks like this, you will need specific Nissan Consult hardware (such as http://www.trackelectronics.com.au/consultBT).

If it looks like this, it should be OBD2 compliant and therefore supported by any ELM327 adapter.

My 2003 Maxima has an OBDII port. Does that mean a Consult adapter will not work on it?

Yes. A Consult adapter (as opposed to Consult II, III, etc) will not plug into a OBD2 port.

Thanks Track, so the port on my car is designed to accommodate OBDII as well as the various versions of Consult adapters?

The OBD port on some Nissan cars is the same shape as OBDII but it is 7 pin and does not have the OBDII capabilty, this picture gives shows what it may look like –

Just to confuse you Nissan changed from the orignal Consult port to Consult II on various models from the late 90s and it looks like this

This is a Consult II OBD port on 2003 X-Trail YD 2.2 ETi

The Consult programme, what ever version, is dependent on a couple of factors including the make of ECU, this seems to have affected protocols.

Consult II will “talk” through a ELM327 but the language is limited, partly because of the use of only seven pins and the use of Consult II ( which is a close approximation to ISO 14230-4 KWP FAST I believe ) A Consult I will not “talk” to an ELM327 as far as I know, specialist wiring is needed, hence the need for the adaptor for Torque, and many other programs.

http://pinoutsguide.com/CarElectronics/nissan_14pin_diag_pinout.shtml

I have posted a question regarding Nissan Consult II which IH may be able to tackle as he progresses with the Consult development, bear in mind this is like trying to learn to speak Japanese so it is not a quick fix.

NB I will post part of this on my own thread for the benefit of those who have Consult II.

I have a Consult||, but don’t have the software for it :(

If I can get Torque to talk to my Z via the Consult protocol (hoping my new adapter will arrive soon!), I will be a very happy guy :)

Do the various Consult versions provide more/better information than OBDII on a Nissan?

The adapter is at LAX customs! Has been there since the 4th. It will be in my greasy hands soon!!!

So, I got the adapter, but so far had no luck getting Torque connect to the ECU. BT connection is fine, the adapter is paired successfully.

Not quite sure what the issue is. It could be poor contact. The adapter is quite long and I have to contort things out of place to have it connected. So, maybe it’s not inserted in fully, etc.

I will start a new thread once I have more data.

Any luck with this?

I just got an ELM327 for my 2002 Maxima and it’s working great.

If the consult adapter will give me more features, I’d be willing to try it but it isn’t exactly worth without knowing what extra features I’ll get.
