Post Nissan Consult II
on: December 21, 2012 (GMT)

I have have been following the development of the Consult thread with interest. I have a 2003 X-Trail with a 2.2 ETi engine (Diesel). It is the pre DCi which was introduced in late 2003, which was OBD compliant although still Consult II as far as I know.

The X-Trail has a Denso ECU, which the later programmable ECU was Bosch on the DCi. Usefull information would include injector pressures, turbo info, and of course fault codes.

I have found one app, Car Gauge Pro, which is able to communicate with my ECU, though not fully.

The device info indicated that ISO 14230-4 (KWP FAST) was being used, on auto setting.

I used a Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830i running Andriod 2.3.6 Gingerbread .XXLD3

OBDII connector is a ELM327 V1.4

I have a whole batch of info on Consult including:

http://www.plmsdevelopments.com/images_ms/Consult_Protocol_&_Commands_Issue_6.pdf

However it is proving harder to get info on CII. The ESM does have some information on Consult II – Trouble codes and data, and list information on expected feedback from the ECU.

So how is the developement for Torque going ? Any chance it will be developed for Consult II ?

This the “OBD” port on my 2003 X-Trail YD 2.2 ETi

Consult II 7 pin socket

The Consult programme, what ever version, is dependent on a couple of factors including the make of ECU, this seems to have affected protocols. Denso ECUs on the diesel X-Trail at least pre 2004 is not ISO where as the Bosch units appear to be.

Consult II will “talk” through a ELM327 but the language is limited, partly because of the use of only seven pins and the use of Consult II ( which is a close approximation to ISO 14230-4 KWP FAST I believe from the data downloaded ) as can be seen from my first post.

So when will Torque “talk” to Consult II and what will the connection be ?

As I have had no response to either posting on the Torque forum or two emails to IH, I have taken the app off my phone for now.

Can not see the point in using or promoting a product with out any support. Great shame, looks good….

If any one has any luck, post on this thread or let me know whats happening at charlie@nissanx-trail.co.uk

He’s got some personal things going on right now…. he’s not ignoring on purpose. He comes here when he has time.

Up until about a month ago, he was on here every day.

Thanks for the feedback Frodus,I did wonder what had happened, I knew it to be an active forum, one of the reasons for choosing Torque. Hope IH is able to get sorted soon and that he is OK.

Sent email ages ago, and another one before Christmas. I will go ahead with CGP and see what happens when IH is able to have a look.

Still no feedback on the ability of Torque to talk to Consult II or Nissan X-Trail YD engine, pre ISO. Any one got any ideas ?

Hello!

Things are better now so I’ve had a chance to clear my desk of stuff that’s built up. I’m behind on a few things, may not get a chance to look at it next week but it is now back on my list of things to check.

Welcome back Ian!

Hope you’re more settled now!

I’m in a similar boat to Charlie with a 2005 Nissan Patrol 4.8 petrol. Except he probably gets better fuel economy.

I have the same ODBII connector, el cheapo ELM327 ebay adaptor and ConsultII. My understanding is that there is a whole range of Nissans in this age range running the same protocols.

I’ve successfully got it paired and working with Car Gauge Lite – in fact, pretty much am in exactly the same position as Charlie. But realistically Car Gauge isn’t in the same league UI-wise as Torque, so hope you progress this from beta :)

hi,
yes, many nissan elgrand owners would really like to use torque. i note that beta testing is underway for owners with early elgrands that use consult I. Any suggestions as to if or when torque may work with nissan consult II? cheers

If anyone has data on consult 2 then I can progress this (I already have the consult 1 docs but that’s not the same as 2)

I may be able to get that – the company that built Consult 2 for Nissan is a few miles from me and I know guys there :) Can’t promise, though, as that stuff is very tightly controlled and it’s been quite some time since it was developed. I do have Consult 2 device without the program card – that’s how tough it is to get.

At the same time, it looks like we are still not there with Consult 1 support…

Consult 1 is working, though it’s not ideal due to the way it’s implemented (I need to get a nissan to do this properly on, or at least the ECU part if the ECU will happily talk to the adapter with the rest of the car missing)

Sorry Ian, I’m not sure I understand that :)

What can Nissan do?

I need to get *a* nissan to do this properly on :-) – the way consult works (for consult 1) means that to get it working at a fast PID rate I would need to do some work on something that was real (rather than a test setup)

If it’s possible (like I have done for VW and Subaru’s SSM1) to get hold of an ECU only and wire this up to the adapter, then I will be able to move things forward – though this does depend on things like NATS still allowing me to talk to the ECU via the consult data port

OK, get this now :)

I had a 300ZX ECU laying around, but can’t find it anymore :(
I’ll see if I can dig up for it. It’s yours, if I find it :)

There’s a few on ebay – I just need to know if I need the ignition barrel or not (for the NATS stuff) – I’ll likely be buying one from there anyway (then it’s just a case of getting the pinout).

Once I have a test system setup, I should be able to get this going quite fast in terms of reads a second (certainly better than your 4 or so/sec that you’re getting at the moment – my initial aim will be around 8/sec, possibly more after optimising)

I have some links for you that may be of interest regarding Nissan ECUs, NATs, etc

Fisrtly the earlier ECUs on the YD engines were Denso which was fitted to earlier vehicles as well http://123seminarsonly.com/Seminar-Reports/035/77862384-Common-Rail-System-for-NISSAN.pdf

After Nov 2003 the system was upgraded to bring it in line with emmisions reg and I think a Bosch ECU was introduced soon after for the Nissan X-Trail. The Bosch unit is a lot more user friendly and can be tuned.

Denso have a download, however I do not know if it will be any help http://denso-europe.com/denso-download/ It requires special hardware.

This source may be of some help too http://www.scribd.com/doc/52745660/DENSO-CR-HP3-NISSAN

Nissans own site carries information on CII and CIII http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/dept.aspx?dept_id=25 again special hardware required.

PLMs information on Consult has usefull data see my first post on this thread.

The ESM has a good deal of information, it is widely available however you should read this http://www.nissanforums.com/x-trail/96298-x-trail-t30-service-manual.html/url re copyrights, etc :)

NATs links look for Abrites Commander, there is a pdf file for this which provides information on NATS also read [url=www.npoc.co.uk/forum/nissan-primera-p12-immobiliser-nats-problem_topic35024.html]www.npoc.co.uk/forum/nissan-primera-p12-immobiliser-nats-problem_topic35024.html This link did not post properly:(

I am seeing good reports on the UK X-Trail forum for Torque, see link below, however pre Nov 2003 diesels are still an issue for Torque, and only CarGuagePro has had any success, this includes a lot of PC based programs. I have cross referenced CII protocol based on the ESM data available to CGP http://scantech.proboards.com/attachment/download/78

Hope this all helps and more of us will be able to use Torque ! Keep at it IH, the answers out there, somewhere :)

Oh and if you want a bit more on Nissan diesels this may be a good place to start, but make sure you put the kettle on http://www.tdocuk.com/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=1751&start=105

Hello from Spain. First sorry for my English. Not very good. I just discovered this forum and trying to find out something more on torque. I have the same problem as you. I have a 2007 Nissan Patrol 3.0 no crd and not get it to communicate with my torque obd port-consult II.

If we can help the developer in what is for our consult II to communicate with torque, we are at your disposal.

Thanks and regards.
